Free GRE practice tests | 2019 – 2020

Practice, along with study, is the most important item on the agenda of every GRE aspirant. Practice exams best prepare the candidate for D-Day, and a number of online prep companies have made them available free. Here’s a list of some good practice tests that allow test-takers to evaluate themselves and prepare well. The top three are the most highly recommended.

ETS

The Educational Testing Service (ETS), the official designers of the GRE General Test, offers two full-length practice tests that replicate the actual test conditions. Practice tests for both the computer-based and paper-based test formats can be downloaded. The practice tests help candidates not only grasp the test content but also understand how the scoring is done. Test-takers can also evaluate how prepared they are in the analytical writing segment.

Manhattan Prep

Manhattan’s three-hour-30-minute practice test provides a feel of the section-adaptive format of the GRE. The practice test is available on the Web, and there is no need to install or download software. Candidates can analyse their performance and identify their pluses and problem areas. A helpful feature of the practice test is that candidates can choose to increase or decrease the pressure of time. They also have the option of doing just one of the two segments (verbal or quantitative). Explanations of the answers are also given.

Kaplan

Kaplan makes available two types of practice tests—one that is self-managed and one that is supervised by a Kaplan instructor. Both these formats include answers with explanations and detailed score analyses.

McGraw-Hill Education

McGraw-Hill Education provides an online practice-test package with a diagnostic test and five full-length practice tests. Explanations for all the answers are given. The tests can be set to be timed or open-ended, and the test scores can be saved for future reference for tracking your progress.
