ISB Essays | ISB Essay Questions and Tips for 2012-2013

ISB essays play a very important role in the overall MBA application process to the Indian school of Business (ISB Hyderabad). Whether you are targetting the new ISB Mohali campus, the admissions process is the same. Admissions committee members from ISB use these essays to evaluate who you are and what you can bring to the class. Here are a few tips to help your write ISB essays for the 2012-2013 batch.

ISB Essay 1

Please detail, your two most significant achievements. These could be either professional or personal but relevant to your application to the ISB. (300 words max)

Think about all your major strengths. Note down accomplishments related to each of these. Now try to do the filtering. Choose 2-3 such that these could portray diverse aspects of your personality. You could preferably have a mix of personal and professional achievements.

Before putting it down on paper think about how to weave a storyline and connect each of these to the enhancement of the class experience. An MBA can be intellectually stimulating when you as well as your peers can participate and contribute towards creating a mutually beneficial environment. So close off with a summary about enforcement of your value to the class.

ISB Essay 2

Where do you see yourself three years after you graduate from the ISB? (300 words max)

The classic careers essay; focus on the following elements: - Have a coherent, well-backed career choice post-MBA. Needless to say, this has to have some bearing with your experience: past to date. This career choice needs to feed into your career goal three years after graduation.

You may also be considering a career change. You need to back this career choice and show that you would be in a position to facilitate this through the various skills you’ve picked up and demonstrated. Also think about what the USPs of ISB are and which of these could help in your career-goals or career- transition. It is critical to dwell on why an MBA at this stage would be just right and why not something else!

ISB Essay 3

Please provide additional information, that will significantly affect the consideration of your application to the ISB? (300 words max)

This is not an optional essay though it appears like one, so make sure you make it count. You can use this essay to focus on other significant achievements or strengths not discussed earlier and something that can generate interest in your profile and strengthen your candidature. Other good topics could be extracurricular achievement, social work or any other hobby/interest you’ve seriously pursued.

How has your profile changed from the time you last applied to the ISB? (300 words max)

Critical for this is to know the feedback on the last application. Clearly address each point in the feedback as well as any other significant improvements in your profile, be it a better GMAT score, improved recommendations, work experience in a different area or perhaps a new role, promotions, etc.

Scholarship Essay (Optional) 5

Why do you think that the ISB Scholarship Committee should consider you for scholarship? (300 words max)

This is not only about merit but also a need-based scholarship. So you need to stress on your academic achievements to date so that you qualify by merit. You also need to convey your financial constraints and the challenges you will face in managing the finances if you are not able to get the scholarship.
