Is it bad to write to the admissions committee at a Bschool asking whether they are giving full tuition scholarships in some round.
Would it put them off.
Thanks,

Not a good idea to throw questions at Adcoms without having a contextual foundation. If you had already been interacting with them for other topics and this happens to be related, then it wouldn't raise eyebrows.Mundasingh123 wrote:Is it bad to write to the admissions committee at a Bschool asking whether they are giving full tuition scholarships in some round.
It might also make them question your priorities - preparation, planning, timing, compatibility with the school etc.
In the first meeting with a prospective bride, it would be unwise to start off the discussion with 'So, babe, how much money should we spend on the wedding?'
Same funda here as well. Financing is an important part of the decision making process, but it should come in at the right time.
If you are really keen on knowing about this information, a better option is to scout informal forums (like school specific discussion threads) where many successful candidate are more than happy to share their supreme accomplishments.

Can you please look at my profile and answer my queries.( I have not read your book but have just oredered one on flipkart, guess that's good enough to get an answer
My gmat score is 660 and AWA 4.5 and I am looking for a "cheap and best" option , I am a very confused and emotional guy, so there's a possibility that one fine morning I wake and decide "muje mummy k paas wapas jaana hai , that's why I have pinned my hopes on BYU marriott. Please tell me if its a good college and what are my chances of getting through. My qualification and work details follow.
I am an enineering gradutae and i have been looking after my dad's air conditioning business for last 2 years ( actually its 2 after graduation , 1 year full time before graduation,if this can count). We have air conditioning business at Gorakhpur,UttarPradesh. Its a small town in eastern UP.
I don't know if working at a small town would strenghten or weaken my application but it'll surely have an Impact. My responsibilites include new business generation and after sales service operations. We are authorised sales and service dealer for 3 leading brands of air conditioners (and we've qualified for FTP (foreign tour package) for 3rd consecutive year , so that shows that I have been doing my job pretty well )
And I am just mediocre at studies, 64% in B.tech (how do i convert that to GPA??) and on the extra curricular front I am left with whatever little i do every morning at the local cricket club.
As far as my future plans are concerned , I would like to start a new business of my own, actually i'd like to start a sports school in india, because I feel that's one aspect where our country has a huge potential with increasing number of young people and growing middle class.
But again, I have no idea how to model my business plan so i thought that may be joining a phoren B-school in US might help.( This is just to give you an idea, ofcourse for writing the essay ,the story will have to be er organised properly
Also , can you tell me whether you mentor in person or online and also your fees ,you can mail the fee details at [edited out] ,if you like. And any additional advice/suggestions are always welcome.
Thank you.

Reading the book isn't a pre-requisite to post here. But it would definitely help as it talks about the repercussions of the 'cheap and best' strategy that many Indian applicants have.
//I am a very confused and emotional guy, so there's a possibility that one fine morning I wake and decide "muje mummy k paas wapas jaana hai
Better option is, mummy ko lekar jana apne saath.
//that's why I have pinned my hopes on BYU marriott. Please tell me if its a good college and what are my chances of getting through.
As this isn't a profile evaluation thread and my knowledge about BYU Marriott is pretty limited, I can't give you in-depth inputs here.
But I was interacting with another candidate who has been a guest blogger on our site. She had been offered a seat at another college (read her Vanderbilt MBA admissions story) and is now dropping that to join BYU Marriott.
According to her, BYU is strong in HR and that's her post-MBA target role. She also got a scholarship there.
But because it was right for her, will it be right for you too? Not a simple answer there

Business plan is the last thing you should be worried about. Plans are roadmaps to accomplish something specific. The bigger constraint is have the skills to do so. And that comes from the real world experience.
As you've just stepped into the working world 1 year back on a full-time basis, even if the best bschool gives you the best business plan to execute your dream, you may stumble at the very next stage.

Details of personal mentoring are available on the website. But give it some deep thought before you decide either to go ahead and apply so early or wait till your profile becomes stronger.

Thanks for clarifying. With 3 years (full-time, I'm assuming) you should aim for other Top schools too.chaturanu23 wrote:I think I didn't properly communicate my work ex - its 2 years after graduation and one year after class 12,i.e. before going for graduation.
Your dotted-line career graph (instead of a regular line with no breaks) would need to be explained clearly in the application.
Happy to work together to brainstorm how it could be best presented i.e. in a manner that doesn't generate more confusion in the mind of the Admissions Officer reading it.

It really helps. Everybody talks about "choosing the right school" but you've gone a step ahead and actually explained what it means.
Thanks again Guruji

I am Avinash and working in the IT industry for the past 4 years. I am planning to get admitted for 2014 batch and preparations are going on. Yet to take GMAT.
Being from the IT industry, it gets really difficult to get an admit unless I stand out from the rest. I would like you to help me with your inputs as to whether my part time profession which I am going to put forward helps me really in pursuing my dream.
I have shared my family business details offline.
Apart from this, I am involved in various small activities which I will mention later as at this point of time, I need to know to what extent the contents of the mail sent will be useful.
Request you to provide your valuable inputs on the same.

Your role in your family business is good (thanks for the offline details). Even if it is only part-time, you manage a critical piece of the business (accounting) at a time when it's most relevant.
Also this is something that your IT role would have never exposed you to. So you have developed a skill on your own. Definitely talk about it in your application.
Just don't go overboard in taking too much credit for the success of a family business that is already running on auto-pilot.
What would be excellent is if you could take a more proactive role in the other areas as well. For instance, you said the business goes beyond the commodity label. So I assume there's a 'brand' value in there. If you have any ideas about doing something innovative with it, then apart from accouting, you'll also have a good marketing (branding) story.
Not many IT professional can talk about having these additional skills. Great way to differentiate yourself in the Indian IT Male Engineer pool.
Hope this helps.

MBA in the USA.
Post by raghava » July 5th, 2012, 3:41 pm
I am raghava. I am planning to do MBA in the USA. Almost all my family members live in the USA. The highest held by me is graduation (BSc). For some unfortunate reasons i could not pursue my higher studies. I have over 6 years experience selling mutual fund products. Over 4 years experience in US IT recruiting. I wish to do MBA in finance. I tried applying for H1 Visa. I was not shortlisted even once. I am planning to get into the US through student visa. What are the prospects of getting an assistance ship in the US if i happen to get student VISA. What are the prospects of getting a job in USA after completing my MBA. I am looking forward to work in an IT/ Financial sector as a financial analyst or Risk manager. How can i fund my education if i fail to get assistant ship, considering that i do not take financial help from my family members for the rest of the course. I would be glad if can answer my query.
Thanks & Regards,
Raghava.
