While going through numerous MBA Programs offered abroad I came forward to M.i.M Program which I found appealing and a right fit for me.Elite European Schools like H.E.C Paris and H.S.G Zurich are offering courses which I find interesting.M.A in Marketing and Finance is one such Program which I am hoping to get into. Are these Programs helpful for getting an overall business outlook? Will they help me in landing a good job after the course?According to the Brochure these Programs require 0 to 2 years of work experience. They accept G.R.E score for these Courses and I feel after a rigorous C.A.T preparation and taking into consideration the GRE syllabus I can manage a score of above 320 in this Test.
I have worked as an intern in a Car Merchandise manufacturing Company in India and learned about the marketing aspects of the trade.I came to know about the business model, resource pool allocation and liquidity preferences of the Angel Investor. It was a great experience for me.
Please help me out with my doubt and guide me for future career prospects.

I'm a mother of one working for a reputed it organization in Chennai. I'm currently expecting by next baby. I'm really fed up with corporate/ software job as I couldn't spend much time with my daughter. Another little one getting added, I couldn't even think of continuing my career here. I'm a B.E (electronics), MBA (HRM- distance mode from anna university) graduate. My concern is all about getting a job where I could reach home atleast by 6:00 PM. Teaching looks to a superb option, but how I could pursue that is a question. Kindly help me with possible career options in my case and valuable suggestions.

I m a 34 year old IT professional, with about 13 years of work experience and wanting to do an MBA.
I will be 35 years atleast when I have a GMAT score, and seek admissions for an executive MBA with preferred institutes.
My question is Am I too old to do an MBA? is 35 / 36 years in India considered too old to get into a good institute?
Regards,
Srivi

This is my first post, so be nice

I am a 23 year old Indian guy, who wants to achieve big things in life. I am extremely confused regarding what I should pursue as a career option. I have lost my interest in computer programming, and find it very boring and monotonous.
I have been looking into a career in Finance, but I am very confused whether I should go for it or not.
Here are some of my talents, personality traits.
1. Good with numbers, interested in Mathematics, finds economics extremely interesting, mediocre coding skills.
2. Analyses everything to death, from boring weddings to the most complex business situations. Likes
to create strategic plans for almost everything.
3. MBTI Personality Type - ENTJ or ENTP
4. Ambitious, Intense, Driven and Money Minded
5. Looks upto leaders like Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, Bill Gates and other leaders who earned lots of
money, leave a legacy and impact the world at large.
6. Often described as pleasant, hard working, and charismatic. Loves public speaking and often
demonstrate good leadership skills.
7. Tends to be opportunistic, sometimes downright greedy and selfish.
8. No problem working hard and long hours as long as it's fullfilling..
These are some career options I'm considering -
A. Executive positions, CEO, CFO, Any position that pays a lot and let me take key decisions ( Although chances of that happening is very slim, since I'm not from an elite college.)
B. Entrepreneur ( Very Risky, but a great experience nonetheless )
C. Hedge Funds / Private Equity
D. Quantitative Finance / Financial Engineering
E. Management Consulting
F. Investment Banking as long as I'm doing meaningful work and not creating presentations or doing grunt work.

Since people here are much more mature and experienced than me, it never hurts to get some useful advice from you guys

Apologies for the long post, and if you made it this far, thank you for your patience and time.

1. What are the various job options available in India after MBA in Finance?
2.How is the work culture in the jobs in Finance? Is the life too hectic?
3. I have read some article on your forum regarding - "how to get out of corporate life" and reasons why people want to get out of corporate jobs - focussing on Finance does this happens often? Is the work pressure very high?

1. I am a defence officer with 11 years of experience in providing communication (Engg) support. With a background in Electronics and telecomn as a graduate Engg degree, I was recruited in Army during 4th year of my engg degree. Thus, I have being consistently involved in my core competency.
2. In any govt job, one achieves stagnancy after a period of time where promotions are few and far between and money (Alas!!) lesser said the better. I think, I have reached that stage and have decided to look for better opportunities in corporate world.
3. However, I have become reluctant (read "confused") after reading various blogs, discussion forums due to my weak academic credentials which are as follows:-
(a) X Std - 82%
(b) XII Std - 78%
(c) BTech (Sikkim Manipal Institute of Tech) - 62%
4. Add to the above, a generous mix of almost zero experience in corporate world.

5. Make no mistake, I am no DODO in my present career. I have been doing extremely well in the nominated defence courses and have been awarded Commendations numerous times. But still bored (read less money and little promotion avenues) with the job.
6. I require two insights from you:-
(a) As a 34 year old, what are the options for 1 yr MBA in india and abroad with my academic and professional credentials? Just 10 colleges!!
(b) Which is the best domain to be chosen for MBA for career advancement?
Thanks
Prashant S

I passed out from IIT kharagpur (5 yrs int MSc) in May 2011. Then I joined PSU and worked there for 3 years. I got bored of working in a PSU so i ventured on a technology startup. I ran it for almost 2 years now but now I see it collapsing.
12th - 88%
10th - 93%
Cgpa - 7.4
Work ex - 3yrs PSU + 2yrs Startup
I want to will doing a 2 yrs full time MBA a good option for me? Am I late? I want to restart my career in finance my current PSU experience wont help me. I almost have zero relevant experience, will doing an executive MBA help? Ho doing a late fulltime MBA hurt my career.

I did my BTech in Mechanical Engineering from a moderately popular college in Andhra Pradesh and managed with above average grades. I was lucky enough to get placed in TCS during my 3rd year of BTech and have been with the same company since then. Now I have over 6 years of experience in IT. Of late, I have been thinking of upgrading myself in a different track than just being a software developer. I have been so fascinated by the evolution of Big Data in the recent times and that drove me towards learning those technologies i.e, Hadoop. I am currently working in a project for a major client organization implementing Big Data projects. But a tad bit of fear and anxiety has been hunting me lately. A fear that I am not going in the right direction (or) I am not at the right place. I was advised by one of my colleagues to pursue Exec MBA from a premier institute which he thinks would add a valid credential to my CV and gives me an edge over the others. He felt so since I was good at organizing few activities within my account, good at making friends in no time, was proactive in taking up the responsibility and solving critical issues and showed few leadership skills which he thought would definitely help me in being a good leader provided I have a valid credential. He himself has managed to get an PGDM degree from XLRI - Jamshepur last year too and is now part of the pre-sales team in TCS, a kind a job which he enjoys doing..
I am seriously considering his advice and really wanted to make a giant leap in my career. I am primarily looking for core business consulting roles like 'Business Development Manager', 'Strategic consultant', 'Operations and Strategy Manager', 'Product Manager' etc.. who would be working closely with the most important people of the organization and involve in crucial decision making.
So please suggest me some good and economical MBA/EMBA in B-Schools which offer courses in 'Operations and Strategy' in India or Abroad, which would help me land my dream job/role.
Appreciate your good work

Thanks,
Sandeep

It's ok to plan for a (small or giant) leap in your career. But don't base it on the suggestions given by one friend. For every MBA grad who is successful in making the shift, there are many more who aren't able to benefit from the degree.
The post graduation goals you've suggested are very competitive to get into. Ensure that you have done the right amount of due diligence before leaving what you already enjoy.
