Candidate on LinkedIn: I am 25. I want my tech startup to beat Google & FB. Harvard & Stanford are my only choices. My sole purpose is to have networks. What's missing in my profile?
Me: Why do you want the network?
Candidate: I read an article by Mark Cuban from Shark Tank- where he mentioned about how networks & the right will at the right time can help you more than money can.
Another NY investor said that he spent $150K in a top MBA, he spent 2 years with future leaders... His classmates are now CEOs, heads of national banks and top policy makers in many countries. Now he can call them anytime and discuss.
Both these guys are billionaires.
I can learn everything else from internet. But for network I need an MBA.
Me: You weren't in my MBA class, but you still used the internet to add me to your network and seek help when you wanted it. For free.
Why can't you do the same with the others?
Someone who wants to help will do that irrespective of whether you attended the same program. And vice versa.
Going back to your question on what's missing, I'd think it's a strong rationale.
Give yourself time to think about whether you want to take on so much debt for purely for something as intangible as a network.
Candidate: I agree...That's what I also think.
Want my startup to beat Google & Facebook. Need MBA network.
