Hi,
Getting ready for CAT definitely won't fully prepare you for the GMAT. If there are no live classes in your area, a good option is to take an online course.
Check out this page to learn about our
online GMAT Prep solution.

Hi,
I have taken GMAT 5 times and these are my scores:
1st Attempt(2008) --- 630 47Q 30V
2nd Attempt(2009)--- 560 42Q 25V
3rd Attempt(2010) --- 550 42Q 24V
4th Attempt(2012) --- 570 37Q 31V
5th Attempt(2012) --- 570 43Q 25V
Needless to say, my scores are really frustrating and I am certainly not confident about taking the exam one more time.I have a decent profile with 6 yrs of work-ex in SAP consulting with 3 yrs of international experience across Europe and UK.
The weakest link in my profile is undoubtedly GMAT. Although I perform quite well in practice test with scores ranging from 690-720 in GMATPrep, I am not sure what goes wrong on the real test.
Please advice what should be my next move.Making peace with the fact that GMAT is not my cup of tea or making another attempt at GMAT?

Hi Sameer,
I am planning to apply for Round-2 (2013). I am focusing on best USA B-schools (Wharton,Kellogs,Mays,Ross,Booth,)
I have ~ >2 yrs of Experience in a top US IB in Tech profile (IT) and my performance has been exceptional and I have a shown good leadership and management skills which will be reflected in my recos. Though my profile was tech, I have been working more on project management and have decent domain knowledge and am leading a team in India now.
I also have an International experience of ~2 months
I have good academic score. B.E.in Computer Science from MU.
I have done a lot of community service during college and after that ( Which is my biggest strength in profile ) and represented Mumbai Univ. in National conference by Ministry of Youth affairs.
I scored a GMAT of 650 (V:30,Q:49), I am wondering if I should appear for GMAT again as this was my worst score and my minimum was 690 after a two weeks effort. I can put in more time and effort and retake it asap.
Please advise if I should.
I am a small town girl and evolving since then and I am building my profile accordingly and working on aligning it with my goals. But right now I am more concerned if retaking the test will be significantly profitable.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Madhu,
With your permission, I'll move this query to the GMAT forum after this response.
Considering all that you've achieved in 2 years, you don't sound like a small town girl at all. Though I hope you haven't allowed the big bad city to completely overshadow some of those small town traits.
Let's come straight to your query about retaking the GMAT. If you are aiming for the top bschools you've listed, your application is only as strong as your weakest link. Though you'll find the occasional low GMAT score success stories, rather than banking on it, you definitely should try to get the GMAT score higher.

Hi Sameer,
Thanks for the prompt response. I have been looking for counselling aid for past one week and your response is very appreciated and the most laconic one I would say.

Madhu

Dear healer_soul,
I am part of the MCB team and thought I'd share a few suggestions with you on your dilemma. The way I see it, you have the following options:
- You can go ahead and apply to some schools where your GMAT score is closer to the school's average. Flip side is that the brands will not be very strong so you gotta make a compromise there a bit
- Skip the Full-time MBA options and consider Executive MBA where
GMAT may not be as relevant as your work-ex. See this for more insights into the topic: https://www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2011 ... mat-score/
- The final option is off course to retake the GMAT. Given that you havent had a lot of luck there despite several attempts, not sure if it makes sense though. In case you havent, you may want to consider professional help to prepare for the GMAT - that may give you a few points increase.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
MG

Time Management.
It is very important to know how not to waste time in this test. Because every section has stringent time limits and you cannot waste more time on one section only. So use a stop watch if needed when you are preparing so that you can learn to manage time effectively. It is very crucial.

Hi,
I am an IT professional having experience of 7.5 years. I never thought of doing MBA before but from some days somehow I am feeling that I should go for it.
I have some queries, could anybody pls help me on these:
- Is it very late, I mean doing MBA after 7.5 years of Work ex?
- What are the future prospects of doing it after 7.5 years of previous work ex.
- I never prepared for any of the MBA exam so I have to start from the scratch, pls provide some guidelines for this.
Thanks!

It's not too late. For some programs your profile may not be a good fit. So you'll have to choose your bschools well. If you get into the right bschool, you'll find folks with more experience than you.

The prospects could be good if you are able to re-use your pre-MBA experience. That way you can target senior roles. If you are looking at a complete career shift, things become a little more uncertain.

Start with the GMAT. You'll need that for any good international MBA program.
1. Try your hand at this short 20-min free practice GMAT test
2. Then pick up the Official guide for GMAT review. And any of the other best GMAT books available in the market.
3. When you think that the basic concepts are clear for the GMAT syllabus, try a few more free full-length GMAT tests for practice.
Rinse, lather and repeat till you are satisfied. Then take the actual test. Beyond that if you need help with building an application strategy, bschool selection or essay editing help, drop us an email at: info [at] mbacrystalball [dot] com
Good luck, Deepali!
