12th Standard - 87.8%
GMAT - 710 overall, 39 Verbal, 48 Quant, 4 AWA, 7 IR
I have a total of 6 years experience in the construction field. Out of this 3 months was in Real Estate Industry, 14 Months in Roads and Highways sector and the rest in Iron and Steel Industry. I worked with M/s Monnet Ispat and Energy Ltd as Assistant Manager for 4 years. Notable Achievements are
1. Took up the responsibility of constructing and commissioning a 1.2 KM Railway Line for a Wagon Tippler ( Cost 2.9 Cr) as a novice in Railway Engineering and completed the task within the stipulated time. Was later handed charge of constructing and commissioning a 7.6 km Railway Line ( Cost 26 cr)
2. Managed Construction works worth 24 crores.
Currently I am working for M/s DNV GL as their representative for conducting Third Party Inspection of Civil Engineering works related to the construction of India's largest Blast Furnace Complex being taken up by M/s Jindal Steel and Power ltd.
I haven't taken up any extra curricular activities.
Basically I am looking for some clarification regarding my strategy for approaching MBA applications
I have applied for IIMA, IIMC, ISB and IIMB this year. Managed to get interview calls from the latter three. Got Dinged by IIMC and ISB and they way my IIMB interview happened, I have no hopes of making it. I intend to switch to Management consulting and projected the same in my application essays and interviews.
Now that I'll be having 7 years of work ex before MBA next year, How tenable is it to project management consulting as a career goal post MBA? Is it actually possible for people with 7 plus years of work ex to make the switch? Kindly advise me on this.

A few thoughts on your profile Rinki:
- You dont need to convert % to GPA - rarely any school asks for it. The link here may be helpful though.
- The nature of your work is not super clear - development/support/testing? What is even more important, is to understand how that fits with your post-MBA plan. The 'interests' you have mentioned are subjects in an MBA program - you have to think of a specific career goal!
- The relatively modest GMAT/GRE can be a bit of a spanner in the overall plans. If you are planning for this year, it might be already too late for a re-take. Read here for a start.
- The 1 Vs 2 year debate depends on a lot of factors. And goes along with your career plans - so difficult to give a generic answer to that.
- Finally, most of your ECs seem to be during college time? See if there is something more recent to back that up.
Cheers,

Post MBA Goals:

Vkrishna,
The ideal thing to do for you would be to check out our Profile Builder package.
Quick clarifications - MS is not a great idea given your years of experience. Check your facts, ISB does NOT require that many years of experience.

Consider the following points Anubhav:
- Your work experience, though non-traditional seems to have some issues? What have you been upto since Aug'15?? Plus, only 2 years of experience is likely to make going pretty tough in general. So if this is a make or break year, aim low.
- For reasons mentioned here, we do not provide gut-based school suggestions. The overall list looks super aggressive though.
- Assuming the internship was done during undergrad, it won't add huge weight. Not sure which of the ECs are recent - recency effect is a big factor on that count.
- R3 is pretty tough both from the visa and seats perspective. There is still time to R2, put in at least 1-2 applications in this time. For some European schools, R3 may not be a big deterrent though.
Cheers,

Thanks for the post Kiran.
You are approaching the question wrong way here a bit. You should ideally not try to 'project' anything. You have to 'believe' in the goals story you write - if you are only concerned with projecting something, chances are you will fall flat - at least in the interviews. Do some more research and you'll see that though not very common, it is not going to be an impossible transition. The link here may help some.

I am looking forward to apply to INSEAD in round 3 for intake in September 2016. I can delay that to intake in January 2016 - if applying to round one has significant advantages.
The one thing that really inspires me to apply to INSEAD is my goal of an international career in management consultancy. I think that gels well with the character of INSEAD. At this point I have a little over 2 years of work experience (with last 3 months being working with my father in his management certification (ISO) company). Before that I was in Ambuja Cement Ltd. as a Civil Engineer - a job I left as it was not fulfilling my professional expectations and I thought it would be great to work with my father to benefit from his 3+ decade experience in management certification consultancy.
At this point, the only question is - do I have what it takes to be in INSEAD?
My profile summary -
Academics
GMAT 730 (Q50, V38, AWA -awaited)
Major- Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi
CGPA - 6.73/10 (Graduated in First Class)
Qualified IIT-Joint Entrance Examination 2009 - top 1.5% of 4,00,000 candidates
Class X - School topper & Gold Medalist (in 350 students) with 94.0% score CBSE boards.
Internship -
Integrated Construction Enterprise, Inc. - Belleville, New Jersey, US
Worked on on-field safety management systems, on-site quality control systems, AutoCAD, and project management systems
Professional Experience -
Engineer (Civil) in the Customer Support Department, Ambuja Cement,
