I gave my GMAT last Saturday and got a score of 670 with an IR score of 6 and AWA 4.
I want to get your opinion on whether I should apply for ISB round 2.

Thanks!
Dear mba_isb2014,
A few reflections on your profile:
- From a year of experience and profile perspective, the story is not so bad. You havent mentioned your post-MBA goal which too will have a certain role to play in the overall scheme of things
- The GMAT is likely to be a big hurdle to overcome. This is especially because your peer group tends to score much higher. Maybe your work experience has been exceptional - but that should truly mean that you have a career acceleration that say 1 in a 100 have or some such. Without that, and in the absence of an undergrad brand, the going is likely to be tough.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,

Hi. Thanks for your feedback.
Should I apply to SP JIMR 2 year PGDM programme with the said GMAT score and profile? Should I give it a try this year?
Any drastic difference in the placements of SP JIMR and ISB, considering I want to work in India, preferably in Mumbai.

Might be worth a shot, but will be still difficult in my opinion.
Yes, the job scene is likely to be VERY different across the two schools.

Hi,
I am currently working in an IT company based at Bangalore.
Next year June 2015 i would be completing my 2 years of work experience. I would then be eligible for 2 colleges in India for my Executive MBA ie ISB and Great Lakes. By the time i apply for ISB i will be having 2 year 4 months work exp.
Before i start preparing for GMAT i wanted to know what are my chances of getting selected in ISB i.e though ISB claims to require a min of 2 years of work exp but does they take any candidates with 2 years of work exp or they prefers higher work exp people ??? I don't want to go abroad for my studies and would like to go for Indian colleges.
I really need this clarification get done. Please help me out.

Subhamoy,
First lets clear a misconception about Exec MBA. Read
here for more.
You havent given any details about your work-ex. Judging only by the word, 'IT', 2 years is likely to be less compared to a large number of folks from 'IT' who will have much more years of experience.
Of course the above is a very generic assessment. Things vary depending a ton of factors such as achievements at workplace, GMAT score, academics, etc etc etc

I am engineer from Mumbai University with 80.83, 54.83 and 56.94% percent in 10th, 12th and Engineering respectively.
I also have 40 months of work experience in the digital marketing space (now I am in a start-up, heading the SEO operations) and want to shift tracks a bit to move into a program like TAS or others of its ilk.
In order to have the knowledge and the chance of making it, I would want to take the GMAT with the sole intention of joining ISB.
Given the poor acads, do I have a chance of making it to ISB. Also are there any other colleges abroad that I might stand a chance. I want to take the exam only if I have a chance. Please let me know.

Aditya,
An indicative GMAT score is also important to assess the chances overall. In any case, for reasons mentioned
here, we refrain from providing gut-based assessments. That said, in general the school level performance has low significance. Your engineering performance looks ok to me unless that too is below average?
So purely from an academic performance angle, I dont see an issue.

I have very good co-curricular activities in school, decent in college and nil after that.
Thanks in advance for your time
Dear Gmat7m,
A few points for you to ponder on:
- You havent mentioned the name of either your undergrad school or the firm. That will help get a sense of brands associated with you.
- The work experience and especially your growth sounds pretty credible. Though risk consulting tends to have low connect with strategy, but provided you can bring out your understanding of business well, you can still have a good shot at ISB. The brands above too will matter. And of course, the GMAT
- On the goals bit, general management, as the name suggests is TOO generic. You'll need to evaluate specific industry/functions and have a rationale behind your choice to justify the move. Or stick to consulting
Hope this helps
Cheers,
Hi,
Gave my GMAT and here's my profile now:
GMAT: 700 (Q46, V40, IR7)
Work Experiences Risk Advisory (Protiviti India) - 3.5 years as of December. 2 promotions.
Undergrad: BBA IT from Symbiosis Pune with CGPA 3.34 (on 4)
Goals:
- College: Top 20 B-School. (Pref US > Singapore > India)
- Short Term: Strategy Consulting, hopefully MBB (I want to move up the consulting pyramid from risk advisory to strategy while moving up the heirarchy pyramid also). Would want to work for 5 years.
- Mid Term: Entrepreneurship - Had a successful ultra-small scale venture while in college. Need to go to a B-school network there (as well the job after that), open up my horizons and then take the plunge. 6 - 20 years.
- Ultra long terms (15+ years)
- Policy / governmental role like Nandan Nilekani (I know this is aiming big but someone needs to fix this country

Gmat7m,
For reasons mentioned
here, we refrain from providing gut based school recommendation. That said, the less than stellar GMAT and maybe a one year less than idea experience may make it a bit tough to aim at the top 20. Will be good to apply to a few beyond that too to hedge risks.
