X-84%, XII-82% , B.com 62% from RA Podar college of commerce & economics mumbai. 2005
Schools I was thinking about is goizueta, ucla Andersen, nyu
Would be grateful if you could evaluate my profile at your convenience..thanks in advance
Dear vnbglr,
Following things come to mind after reading your post:
- It is not clear as to what you have in mind here. You mentioned you want to explore the larger banking space. By this, I assume you mean areas such as M&A, Equity Research, Debt Syndication, etc etc? But on other hand, you also mention strategy and sales? These are two pretty different things. A CFA could be useful in the former, not necessarily in the latter pursuit.
- There are very few pure strategy positions in banks/bfsi. And they tend to hire people either from top strategy consulting firms or people with domain experience - rarely fresh out of campus. So you may want to rethink on that front
- The school list you have there is an aggressive one. Since you've not written the score, I am assuming you are yet to take your GMAT. As a first step, it is advisable to first fully understand the various roles/functions you have mentioned. Then decide which of these is your primary bet - something that appeals most to you. Only then should you start selecting the schools and creating your application strategy.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
MG

This is Siddharth Chaudhary. I would request you to evaluate my profile and also suggest some insights on which schools to apply for:
I want to pursue an MBA from a reputed B school primarily for growth prospects. If you can weigh options and let me know which B schools could I consider, it shall be greatly helpful. I am open to good schools in US but the substantial cost is a consideration (considering the top 15 schools and that they dont issue a scholarship). I shall be willing to consider schools in Singapore as well. I would not be wanting to try schools in UK for the reason that there dont exist many good opportunities aftermath the MBA degree (please correct me if I am wrong). And lastly, I would want to consider ISB as well.
Please suggest which schools should I apply to. I would also request you to weigh my chances of getting in top schools in US,Singapore or ISB.
Sid,
From a 20,000ft view, your profile seems to have good ingredients like a good academic+gmat and interesting work-ex. The years of experience could be an area worth considering when choosing the top schools. Though European economy is yet to recover, but its not true to assume people from European schools do not get placed.
For reasons mentioned in many previous posts, we'd rather not hazard a guess at school list and would recommend the
MBA MAP to help you out.
Cheers,
MG

Can you please evaluate my profile. I am providing my personal details below.
Personal Information
Name Debrup Ghosh
Target B Schools :-
• ISB

• ESADE
• Oxford
• Rotman
Dear Debrup (your moniker makes me shudder
),
Thanks for a detailed profile. You have however not mentioned the reason you are planning an MBA so a bit tough to evaluate your profile. Here are a few reflections nonetheless:
- You seem to have a good mix of ECs. Make sure you reflect these as part of your story.
- Given your school list, the GMAT will obviously be an area worth thinking through. Though your quality of work-ex looks good, but a good score never harms.
- For a better sense on the target schools, check out the MBA MAP

My query is: Whether is it worth going for Abu Dhabi campus. Is it as good
in terms of overall student environment. Most importantly, is Abu Dhabi
considered to be as good as Singapore by prospective employers after the completion of MBA.
General inputs. Satellite campuses can never match the ambience of the original campus.
If you are considering an Executive MBA, then I'm guessing you have location constraints as well.
So the best you can do is to evaluate other options in the same city and take a call, rather than compare it with the original program and what it can do for you.
Also, it's not correct to compare full-time vs Executive MBA for job opportunities.
Read a little more on the Executive MBA vs full-time MBA argument.

I'm planning to apply for my MBA in '2014 . My goal is to do my MBA from the top 10 global MBA college ( It might seen a little vague as I am not naming any particular schools but the reason for it is also that I am hoping that you can help me sort this too.)
(1) Based on my profile kindly let me know what is my realistic chances of me getting into a top tier MBA college.
(2) What would you suggest to make my profile stronger i.e. any courses or skills that I can work on.
(3) Being in my thirties do you think it will hamper my chances and if there is any thing I can do for it.
(4)Finally if you can suggest some colleges that my kind of profile will be more suitable for and will have a higher chance of getting into.
(5)Have few Gap years in my profile i.e. after 12 and after engineering for which i have nothing to show for i.e. no documents of any work experience even though I worked as a free lancer in those years.
Dear Niche,
It would have been useful to know the nature of your family business to do a better assessment. Here are a few thoughts to the questions you raise:
- As I mentioned, it is tough to evaluate without understanding the nature of your family business. Moreover, for a better and dependable assessment of your chances, the MBA MAP does a far better job.
- More than courses, step one for you should be to understand the management consulting industry in greater details. If possible, try and do projects with your NGO in association with some of them so you get a taste of what this means.
- As they say, age is just a number. But depending on your overall profile, this will make some schools more achievable than others. Refer point 1 above for more insights
- refer point 1
- If you used these gaps productively and can honestly mention the type of work, it is ok to mention that experience. Assuming you were not working for free, your income can also serve as one of the ways to show you were working for instance.

MG

I would truly appreciate any advice on how to choose schools and how to apply for them ? What can i do to maximize my chances ?
Dear Knightrider,
Your initial list looks pretty aggressive. Having said that, your profile does seem to have elements that can get you a realistic shot at some of these schools. For instance, a move from analytics to management consulting is not really far-fetched.
It would be difficult to hazard a guess though without the availability of more information. I would recommend you check out our
MBA MAP product as well as our

Hi,
My name is Abhinav. I gave GMAT 2 days back and scored 710(Q49, V36). I have an experience of 4.5 years, by the time I will join schools experience will be 5.5. First 2 years I worked in Wipro as SAP ABAP Technical consultant. Later I moved to SAP Labs India. Since then I'm working in SAP as an Application developer for one of SAP Cloud Product and I work on creating Financial reports in that product. Extra curricular is not much. I am an avid bike tourer. I do lot of bike rides and touring is my passion.
I'm looking to apply to schools either this year or next year. I want to move from Application developer to Consulting roles. The schools that I'm targeting are ISB, IE Spain, NUS, NTU, SMU, HKUST and Melbourne business school. I want to study in Asia and inclined more towards Singapore business schools. Could you tell me what are my chances and what are the things I should work on.

Abhinav,
A few points to note:
- Any reasons you want to postpone applying to next year and not this? Unless you feel there is an earth shattering event about to happen, may not necessarily be a good idea to postpone your plans.
- The profile points are a bit sketchy, but do bear in mind that Asian schools tend to have a higher GMAT. Unless of course there are other strong points in your profile. On the ECs, have you done things such as inter-city/state tours? The activity should be substantial enough to be worth a mention

MG

Hi MG,
Is 710 score not good enough or should I retake GMAT? I forgot to mention that my CGPA in college was 8.26. Will that be an advantage?
For ECs I have taken sometimes part in my company's CSR activities. And since now I'm free I can do more.
I have done many weekend trips to different states. I have done a 7 day trip covering almost 2000kms including 3 states and a UT, on a bike. I'm planning to do one more 5 days trip. I covered 1450kms in a day and wanted to complete a target of covering 1610kms but I wasn't able to achieve it. I also have started preparing for a trip to Ladhakh. Touring is my passion so I do all these stuffs but I'm not sure whether it will have any advantage on my profile.
I said for next year so that even if I don't get admission this time I can work on to improve my profile. Now I think that is not a good thinking and I should go for this year only. I would certainly need your guys help may be through MBA MAP.

Abhinav,
It would be a good idea to apply this year and see how things go. Though it's always good to have a backup plan, let's hope next year won't be necessary. Your GMAT is not low, but given the competitive pool you will be in, a higher score wouldn't harm either.
Happy to help out in putting a strong application this year. Send us a note on mcb at mbacrystalball dot com to get started with the MBA MAP and create your application strategy.
