Occasionally, I organize meetups (promoted with the hashtag #KoffeeWithKamat) with a select few participants.

The meetup agenda includes MBA & career related Q&A, followed by a team task to give the participants the experience of being an MBA student.

Here are some participant views after a session where the attendees (pictured below) came from diverse industries, with work experience ranging from a few months to almost a decade.

When I came for the meet up I was expecting 2-3 individuals in attendance and a basic info session followed by a Q&A.

What impressed me was Sameer's thoughtful arrangement of the participants into a study group.

Instead of wearing a teacher hat, Sameer essayed the role of a skilled facilitator wherein he was able to leverage the group's collective wisdom to give us a flavor of the actual student experience.

My biggest takeaway was around team dynamics and how they can make or break a learning experience. I realized its crucial to consciously develop people skills and absorb insights from all avenues.

I came for the meet up with an impression of a monologue from Sameer to enlighten us with admission and application insights.

However, I was pleasantly surprised with the planning that brought together individuals from varied backgrounds and diverse profiles and the organization of the meetup.

The b-school classroom simulation activity got our gray cells active and turned a group of disparate individuals into a team in which every person learned from the other.

The highlight of the meetup for me was learning to keep an open mind and salvage situations by leveraging strengths over pitfalls when you are at crossroads; somethings that will be commonplace as an MBA student in the near future.

All in all, it was a power packed session and I am privileged to have been a part of the same.

When Sameer Kamat from MBA Crystal Ball invited me to the #KoffeeWithKamat session after I reached out to him, I was excited - and rightly so!

I certainly did not expect to walk out with a book authored by Sameer himself that I received as a token of appreciation for excelling in a group activity that he conducted!!

I have been following Sameer for a long time now and I know the deep insights maturity in the MBA space that he brings to the table.

I met him on a Saturday morning, expecting to get a taste of the same expertise and hopefully develop some perspective myself.

Not only did Sameer deliver on that by taking up all our doubts and sharing his expertise, he also went above and beyond with an accurate simulation of a typical B-School class - right from making sure we draw lessons from the diversity in our peer group to racking our brains in an individual brainstorming session, all of it punctuated by his soft poise.

My key takeaway? Articulated very well by Sameer himself, “Doing an MBA is like taking a flight - you should definitely know where you are going to land before you board the plane!
