Young Student (YS): Hello Sir, I'm pursuing CA. But I think it's not for me. I dream to become the top executive in a company and join the management. I'm obsessed with power. I very well know that with power comes great responsibility and am ready for the same. I know what I want but don't know the way to reach. But what are the possible options which can get me there?

Me: You'll have to be more specific about what 'there' means. And then create a plan to get there. Right now, it's a very vague target.

YS: Actually I don't want to be a part of the rat race. I want to achieve something big in life. I can't just settle as an accountant. I wanna change the way of doing certain things by strategic decisions and not just ending up in a regular job.

Me: Ok if I become the devil's advocate and ask something?

YS: Sure.

Me: When you've never done any of the low level, technical things, how would you be in a position to take strategic decisions?

YS: So you want me to start at a low level and then gradually and eventually rise up?

Me: Yes, spend time doing stuff that's important but probably not exciting. Build a solid foundation first, before you think of going higher. Taking short-cuts will only increase the risk of collapse.
