Question on Quora:
How can undergrads from IITs get into the top Business schools in the world?
My response:

First myth I'd like to dispel. Being from an IIT doesn't pre-qualify anyone for the Top 10 Bschools.

I've come across over-confident IITians who jumped into the admissions process hoping their degree coupled with a high GMAT score will get Adcoms to lay out the red carpet for them.

And you can guess how that story might've ended.

Zero admits!

Having said that, having an IIT degree does tell the Adcoms one thing. That the candidate has gone through a gruelling selection process.

But this selectivity was based primarily on one super-tough entrance test. And the high GMAT score just underlines the same trait. High intellectual capability.

However, for an MBA, there are other equally important traits that come into picture.

The ability to think not like a brilliant technical guy, but someone who can manage and lead a business.

Start working on those aspects and you'll come across as a well-rounded candidate rather than a nerd.

Get your hands dirty, learn the ropes, experience success and failure. Then think about the top MBA programs in the world.
