Aditya shared his story about the SP Jain Global MBA (GMBA). It's a program that's quite different from the conventional 2-year program offered by the bschool.

If you are interested in knowing more about the bschool, its academic content or career opportunities, please post your queries here.

We've requested Adi to invite current students and alumni from the SP Jain Global MBA programs to share their experiences here, so prospective applicants can know more.

Hi Adi,

I have a few queries regarding the Contemporary Marketing Management course in SP Jain GMBA as I have received the offer of admission for the same in the December 2012 batch, though I am planning to defer it to the April/May 2013 batch due to work commitments.

Just wanted to check with you about the program as a whole...how is the course and college?....the experience...

How are the placements generally for the people in the marketing specialization?...especially for people who have shifted from other streams like IT to marketing?...

which and what kind of companies came for placements for marketing people?.

where are the people mostly placed in and in which cities are the jobs based out of ..

and the range and average salary of the people placed from marketing specialization......

Also, since its an Australian degree, what is the value and weightage of it in different parts of the world?

and lastly would be, is the program worth the high investment in terms of fees and is the ROI good?....
would you recommend it?

Thank you for your help in advance

Hi Dilip,

Regarding the queries which you have for CMM, I have requested my friend to respond as I am from a different specialization.

Having said that with regard to your queries related to salary and jobs check out the following link for details...

http://www.spjain.org/

Regarding ROI and whether the course is best fit. There are few more things which should be looked into..

I think few parameters to consider would be:

1. Your current options
2. Current Role and experience
3. Future aspirations
4. Current pkg...
5. GMAT score and number of attempts

Cheers,
Adi

Hi Adi,
Firstly, congratulations on your admission to this unique GMBA course. I'm in the process of getting admitted to the MGB program which is starting this year (Dubai-Singapore, no Sydney for this course either!).

I want to ask you to about the transportation to and from campus - how far away are the students accommodated? Is it walking distance or do you have to rely on the shuttle?

And more pertinently, how is the accommodation? The site and the people at SPJ tell us that 3-4 people share studio apartments. That sounds rather cramped, is it though?
Is it just 4 beds in a room, or is it separated into individual sections? Do issues arise w.r.t. personal space/privacy? Eg. one guy wanting to study keeping the light on, and the others wanting to retire for the night?
Is it one bathroom for all 3-4?
How much of the day is spent in the room - is it just for spending the night so to speak? Any pictures of the rooms would be very helpful indeed :).

Lastly, how far away is downtown Dubai, and what is the preferred mode of transport into the city? Is it too much of a distance to allow frequent trips?

I would be much obliged for any light thrown on these queries, especially the accommodation.

Thanking you for the same,
Anand D.

Hi Anand,

Thank you for writing in...

Here you go

1. Transport

Dubai - The college is 15 min by bus. Bus is arranged as per class schedule and any guest lecture / seminar. You can take a taxi if you miss the buses :)

Spore - The hostel is just above the college so u just need to jump from one room to another.

2. Accommodation

Dubai - Yes we have to share studio appartments. It is not that congested. You have separate facilities including washing m/c, microwave, refrig.. shared by 3 -5 ppl. Bathroom are also shared among 2/3 ppl.

One thing i feel one should learn during the program is to be adjust and negotiate.. so if one has problem with lights learn to adjust or negotiate... just jokin.. :)

Individual head lamps are there. Separate study rooms are there as well just in case you want to study for long hours. You can be rest assured that sleep will be one of the least things you need to bother about as you do not get to do much of it. :)

Drive to the city is around 25-30 min by cab. Depending where you want to go. You can opt for bus/metro service as well.

Let me know if you need any further info...

Cheers,
Adi

Thanks for taking the time out to reply :)

- Is Dubai too hot for cycling/walking around?
- Are there no apartments in the Academic City itself or is it that SP Jain has opted for a particular location for the hostel, because 15 mins seems a bit far.
- Do you guys spend most of the time and get most of the work done at the campus and then return only for sleeping, or are there library/wifi facilities at the hostel as well?
- On a related note, what are the internet and TV facilities in the hostel? Any other recreational facilities (indoor/outdoor games)?

- What are the average monthly expenses that arise outside of the course fees (AED/INR)?

Hi Anand,

-It depends on what time of the year you are coming. Summers are definitely hot. Winters are fine.

- Ya, currently its a 15 min drive. No hostel in campus yet

- Most of assignments are done in hostel - we have wi-fi in hostels

- Hostel has good recreational facilities pool table/tv/tt.. depends on how much time one has to enjoy them :)

- It comes to around 800-900 AED (min. )

Hope it helps...

Cheers,
Adi

Hi Adi,

Thank you....it felt good when I got to know I had got selected

With regards to the parameters you asked me to consider, do find my response

1. Your current options
"At the moment..nothing..This is the only college where I have got selected first..planning to write the GMAT and then apply to other colleges based on my score"

2. Current Role and experience
"Just completed 3 years..by the time I went for the interview 2 weeks ago...Working in IBM...Business Analyst and LEAN manager for the account I am working in...."

3. Future aspirations(just a rough idea at the moment)
"To grow in the Marketing field. To lead a team in the organisation I am working in and build my reputation to the point where people come to me because of my work. Eventually after working for sometime and gaining experience, will work with my dad who happens to be a Marketing Consultant himself...and build his firm"

4. Current pkg...
"Just above 6 lpa"

5. GMAT score and number of attempts
Have given the GMAT exam before...one attempt...scored a 570.. I could have done much better"

With the above responses, what do you feel about the ROI and whether the course is best fit for me
