Hi Hitesh, I read your blog. If I had a million dollar business, I would probably never have even thought about an MBA. You have guts!

I am an engineering graduate working in a good IT company with a total of 5 years work experience. I aspire to be a strategy consultant and work in any of the top-tier companies. My expected GMAT is around 730. I want to go in for a one-year program in Europe. I have many questions :?:

Whether one-year MBA is enough for career change? How do you compare an MBA from IE to other European programs like INSEAD, ESADE, IESE? Would there be a remarkable difference when it comes to job openings? Would language be a problem? Where have other Indians with typical IT backgrounds gone after graduation from IE?

Looking forward to your reply.

Dear Abhishake,

Lets be honest there are no guarantees in life, an MBA will give you the reach and knowledge to crack the code but again nothing is for sure.

You have a good score and you are one of the crowd when we talk about IT so try differentiating yourself, Sameer is a guru in helping you out...

The average age for European MBA's is on the higher side so thats the reason they are one year.

FT does the ranking and as i stated earlier its for you to find which school satisfies your desires and needs.

In regards to your career shift: its slowly getting tougher and tougher for career shift because of the current financial crisis and drastic immigration laws. However technology consultant to Management or strategy consulting is quite feasible and achievable.

The best school is InSEAD if you are looking for a Consulting oriented career. I wanted a flavor of Entrepreneurship hence i never applied to INSEAD.

Language is always an issue if you want to blend yourself in the European culture so I would always recommend to learn the language; and its a huge plus during the job search post graduation.

Hope this helps.

/H.

Hello sir,

I recently took the GMAT and scored 720 in it. I have graduated from BITS-Pilani with B.E.(Hons) in Computer Science. I am currently placed in Sapient Global Markets, Blore. However, my CGPA is really low - 6.34/10. I would be applying for colleged only after 2 years of work experiece, that is, in 2015. I wanted to know if I should be looking at IE, Spain ideally with my score, cgpa and profile.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My profile in Brief:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10th - 94%

12th - 89%

B.E.(Hons) Computer Science - 6.34/10

Thesis - Data Analytics, Supervised by Dean, IIIT Hyderabad.

School Head boy - 2008-2009

Selected for International Student Exchange Program (JENESYS) - 2008

University Footbal Team Captain - 2010-2012

Department head - Department of Sponsorship and marketting - 2010 - 2012

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason I am asking this question is so that i can better prepare my profile depending on your suggestion.

Your answer would be greatly appreciated. My major worry is my CGPA. Would it be a bottle neck for my apllication? How can i off shoot it?

Thank you :)
