Hi Sayantan,

Mays Application form for the Full time MBA Program requires one to enter his managerial work-ex. I have 3.5 years of work-ex but nothing at a managerial position. Will that hamper my candidature? My GMAT score is 720 and I am planning to apply for the Nov 1st deadline.

Hey akhil1985,

I believe an experience as a placement coordinator may not be counted as a professional experience. Just do a bit more of introspection and try to find out if you can add any professional experience.

I will also suggest that if you think your experience as placement coordinator is a value add then you can write something in the optional essay about it.

Hi MBAA

Since you have 3.5 years of work experience I believe you will have some leadership experience during that period. You can put any length of time during which you led any team as a managerial experience. By managerial experience they want to find out your experience as a leader or decision maker.

Hope this answers you question and all the best.

Hi Sayantan!

Below is a brief on my profile,I would appreciate if you could please go through it and answer my queries.

General: 24 yrs,Female, India

GMAT - 640 ( a bit on the lower side :( )

Undergrad: Specialization in Accounting and Finance, India ( Avg 75% for 3 years)

Work Experience: 4 years by Fall 2012
- Finance industry:6 months internship and 6 months full time at the same investment bank.
- Social Service:6 months on a project for an NGO
- Finance Industry:15 months,investment banking
- Aug 2012 onwards, co-owner of family business (apparel industry)

Plan: Full time MBA in Marketing or Management, with a long term goal of becoming an entrepreneur in India
- Cost of the MBA is an important factor too

Queries:
- Is my GMAT score too low for a scholarship consideration? should I give it another shot?

-Does the school have good placement companies coming in for marketing?

- How much weightage does Mays give to an entrepreneurship oriented application?

- Keeping my profile in mind, what would you say should be my focus while writing the application essays?

Much appreciated!

Alright... So even with 640 I can expect a scholarship if I write my essays well and tell a good story?

Hi MBA2013,

First of all Mays doesn't focus a lot on GMAT scores. But a higher score doesn't hurt you either.
Frankly speaking 640 is a bit low if you can increase your score it will increase your chance of being admitted.

Internationals do face a problem when it comes to recruitment and this is the situation everywhere. So that is one thing that is not in your hands.

We have started new initiative from this year which focuses on people who are looking to be entrepreneurs so I guess it differentiates you from the lot.
You not being an engineer does help you a lot to stand out among other Indian applicants. Your experience looks good but I can't comment much about your profile without much details

Try to focus on your strengths and achievements that helps you standout. Just remember you are selling your story so it should be something that represents you and is strong enough to showcase your strengths to the admission team.

All the best with your application do let me know if the information helps.

Hi Sayantan

Thanks for posting the answers of so many queries, I would like to add one more. What do we have to fill (as an Indian candidate) in the the last two section 1)International Candidate (VISA stuff) and the 2) Residency. Since the VISA cannot be done now are we supposed to leave it blank?

Would appreciate your response
Thanks
