Harsh realities of MBA life

I asked Vikas Sharma, MBA grad from IE Business School, if he could share some lessons (including the harsh realities) from his MBA experience. Here's his response.

1) Good GMAT score = admission to a top tier program. Really untrue for most top B schools. Your entire life (including career) counts.
2) A good job/salary after the MBA. This may /may not be true. It depends on the career pre MBA, your reason to do an MBA, your individual strengths, and yes luck! No immediate growth for all but for a few. In most cases it bears fruits but after you have put in some time and efforts after the MBA.
3) A good MBA means a job in hand by graduation - That might not be true. Most top schools stress on training you and providing you with skill sets- but job is your look out. Most people put in efforts and do get something decent. This point is related to the one immediately before.
Also, humility is a great virtue to have. The class will be full of people way more smarter than you and with better careers - for instance, I had an Olympian in my class and might well be participating in the next Olympics.
And yes, a decent work experience under the belt before joining an MBA really helps one extract the max out of it.
