Dear ISBaspirant,
Short answer is, with the right GMAT score, you should have a shot at it. For reasons mentioned
here, I wont go into predicting your chances however.
If you can address the issues (gap?), and can link your pre-sales experience to the post-MBA goals well, your experience will actually be a plus.
Hope this helps some

Dear Vivek0786,
Here are a few reflections on your profile:
- The BHEL experience will be pretty useful to show differentiation and impact. The issue will be to link that to a rational post-MBA goal - which you've not mentioned. You need to have a clear thought on what skills you've developed will help in your post-MBA stint
- Your career progression is not very clear here. Did you have a gap of 1 year between graduation and starting work? You will have to explain all the gaps as well as stuff you've done in the intervening period, no questions about that
- While the overall score is about average, the AWA can hamper your chances. This is more so in case there are gaps in your employment per point above. A better overall score may help improve chances - but only if you have a fair confidence that that'll pan out.
Provided you are able to address these areas, you should have a fair shot at ISB.
Cheers,

GMAT Score : 650 (Q48, V31)
Work Ex : EY - 1 year (got 5/5 rating this year)
Academics : 90% in SSC HSC TYBCom
CA - 1st Attempt
Should I apply to ISB under EEO this year?
Or should I reappear next year after giving GMAT after 3-5 months and trying to get a 700+ score?
If I apply this year and do not get selected, will it affect my chances as a re-applicant next year?
Please guide.
Thanks!

Dear Rony123,
In general, reapplying is a tricky business as you need to show substantial change in profile to justify reconsideration. With your GMAT score, it will be pretty tough to make a credible attempt. Next year, you will already have 2 years experience, so you'll have a better chance at the regular program in my opinion.
Hope this helps,

Hello
I am an ISB aspirant and have an unusual profile.
I am an Aeronautical engineer from PEC, chandigarh, and passed out in 2012.
I wanted to be an entrepreneur and was in the Entrepreneurship club in college et al.
After college, I joined an IT firm, but quit after 6 months. I then joined Career Launcher for 1.5 years, where I was the editor for their magazine and was also into marketing communications and business development.
In between I tried my hand at a football commerce start-up, sensing that India was going to go big on football soon. But I had a split with my partner and it did not take off.
But then I attended startup weekend, and found an interesting start-up to work with.
I joined them, but had to be let go because of shortage of funds in 1.5 months.
Currently, I am in talks with another start-up. I want to become an entrepreneur in the media segment. But at present, I am not working.
I wish to apply to ISB, the purpose being to learn proper management before I plunge into another venture.
I am a freelance writer, and a draw caricatures as a hobby.
I have decent social work experience as well, was in NSS in college, volunteered for a social organization for 6 months, and am a UN online volunteer.
If I apply to B-Schools now (both ISB and the likes of Fisher and Kelley in the US), will my current unemployment be a cause of worry in my applications?
How much of a chance do I have?
I have a GMAT score of 720.
College CGPA 6.84/10
+2 86.2%.
Please review my profile and help with my unemployment conundrum.

Hi,
I am applying to the ISB PGP next month (R2) and would request a profile eval!
I am giving GMAT next month with a target score of 720 - 750 (lets assume this to be the actual score range because I'll drop application in case I get less than 720).
I have Bachelor's in Business Administration degree with a GPA of 3.34 (on 4) with 3.5 years (and counting) work experience with a risk consulting / internal audit firm in India. I have led small to large teams / handled clients independently / traveled extensively on my job. By the time I begin my MBA (if I get in this time) I'll have 4 years of work experience.
In the 3.5 years I have worked, I have been promoted twice. I started at the base of the hierarchy and I am now just below the manager level. My work has also evolved from execution to team leadership to independent client handling (meeting with CXO, dealing with vendors, law enforcement etc on behalf of the client). Most of my clients have been large Indian and global corporations.
Although on many occasions I have worked with global teams, only on occasion I have traveled to the UK (I am from India) on a fortnight long engagement with a telecom company.
My post MBA goals are not very rigid, I would be happy to continue in consulting (but I want to move up the pyramid from risk consulting to strategy) but I wouldn't mind general / operational management role either.
I have very good co-curricular activities in school, decent in college and nil after that.
Thanks in advance for your time

Hello Manish,
I gave my GMAT last Saturday and got a score of 670 with an IR score of 6 and AWA 4.
I want to get your opinion on whether I should apply for ISB round 2.
Here is my profile -
10th - 94% (CBSE Board)
12th - 85% (CBSE Board)
Graduated from DAIICT (Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology) with a CPI of 8.3.
I am currently working with Deloitte Consulting in Mumbai and have completed 3 years & 4 months with the firm as a Business Technology Analyst.
I will get very strong recommendations from the firm (even from the very senior leaders).
Have been involved in community service for the past 3 years.
Do I have an outside chance of getting into ISB if I manage to build a strong application?
Please respond at the earliest.
Thanks!

After a bit of gap, we are back. Here are a few thoughts for you Shankar:
- Your GMAT and your undergrad give you a good overall academic profile. The GPA though seems to be below average. With only 2 years of post-undergrad experience behind you, this might you at a slight disadvantage.
- Lack of employment is always a tough thing to justify/explain - and that's not just for a bschool adcom. The thing that will make it more severe is the fact that though you've had some interesting 'starts', you havent had a quality experience perhaps that could have given you a rich work-experience. A more prudent thing might be to take up a job, put in some efforts there and then apply with a better and more consistent profile. Perhaps in that time, you can also work on a serious idea to lend more credibility to your entrepreneurial dreams
Hope this sparks some new thoughts
Cheers,

Dear Gmat7m,
A few points for you to ponder on:
- You havent mentioned the name of either your undergrad school or the firm. That will help get a sense of brands associated with you.
- The work experience and especially your growth sounds pretty credible. Though risk consulting tends to have low connect with strategy, but provided you can bring out your understanding of business well, you can still have a good shot at ISB. The brands above too will matter. And of course, the GMAT
- On the goals bit, general management, as the name suggests is TOO generic. You'll need to evaluate specific industry/functions and have a rationale behind your choice to justify the move. Or stick to consulting
Hope this helps
Cheers,
