I am confused whether I should take this up or try for a foreign MBA(Asia) or ISB. My GPA was 7.7 and i have 90 % in both 10th and 12th.MY co-curriculars are average i would say.My first priority is ISB , could you please tell me what should be my next step and please guide me through it?

I targeting MBA in fall 2015 and from the past months i have been reading crystal ball posts and discussion and finally i thought of getting my profile evaluated
so here is goes :
Qualifications :-
Btech in computer science from MDU university
low acads( tragic story )
GMAT - 690 as of last attempt ; will be taking a shot again in June/July hoping to get 720+ so that i can cover up for my acads
Work ex :
Presently working with Dell International Services as a System Admin
Will be completing 2 years of work ex in sept 2015 with DELL
Let me give a brief description of my job responsibilities :-
Team Lead for a team of 8 members in a team of total 28 members (40% members in US )
I deal with performance monitoring of servers and ITIL.
Perform incident resolution in accordance with Service Level Agreements
Deal with Change management
Performing On-call meeting with clients
Customer Support
making sure my team members are able to absorb and perform the duties assigned to them
Providing new ideas in order to improve our SLA and productivity and much more .
before that i worked with a small company as a process lead where i had to opportunity to train and supervise newbies for the company products and how to basically provide technical support not sales but technical ; how to handle clients on call mostly US and UK .
Extra Circulars :-
Worked as a Campaigner in MUST BOL , a un women project focussing on Gender Diversity and Sexual violence ,
This included going to delhi colleges and making young generation join our campaign and online forum , Making them to discuss and be open to the Sexual
violence happening around them ,
As of now working with my friends ngo a very small one to teach children basic computer skills and English so that atleast my folks can land up with a decent call center job.
Blogger but not much .
Time pass writer mostly love stories and poems
Career Goals :
I want a switch badly from this service based industry to a more decision making role like PM or consultant . This MBA is the only way for me to make something worth out of life. I received 2 promotions in my first company in span of 6 months and in dell i got promoted in less than a year and i am up for another which i m 100% sure i am gonna grab it. But this constant reminder of not being from a good UG college and low acads make me badly scared to even dream for GMAT . Today i handle a team of 8 people but thats not what i have in mind for myself . Surely if i stay in dell and work harder in 3-4 years
i might move to delivery manager or something but truly i dow.ont have much time . If u ask me honestly I have to get into a MBA COLLEGE This year any how.
I am 25 years of age and I am not an IITian or from a good UG college but what i lack in this i am trying to make up with my job and achieving there.
What makes me different is i am great surfer i can literally dig up the internet and make a report on anything you give me ,
So this is all i can sum up as of now . My only aim , or u can say my only dream is only one college and that is ISB . I try working on myself everyday somehow so that i can reach there .Rest you are my GURU waiting for your precious words .

The question on CAT based MBA or GMAT one is pretty subjective and depends on a lot of factors. Our posts here and here should give you some perspective on it.
If you do decide to apply to the ISB, GMAT would really be step zero. Some more insights into the process here.
Hope this gets you started.
Cheers,

I am in a big dilemma. I have been admitted to Vanderbilt's Owen Business School with 40K scholarship and ISB Hyderabad and i am really confused as where to go.
A brief overview of my profile-
I have 4 years of experience in executing a capital project (an 8 billion dollar steel plant) as an electrical engineer. I am a graduate from NIT Nagpur 2011 batch. I have GMAT score of 710. I joined Tata Steel from campus in their Management Trainee (Technical) cadre and have been working there since then as Manager Projects.
Career Goals-
I want to move to finance roles particularly in corporate finance roles in manufacturing industry or a conglomerate, or strategy consulting roles after MBA. I have already cleared CFA Level 2 exam.
Confusion-
1. I am already earning above 11 lacs p.a and i have heard that although ISB have an median package of 18 lacs it is not to be relied upon. Is that true?
Since u are an ISB alumni, so can u throw some light on the actual placement scenario.
2. How would u compare the Owen Brand with ISB in getting consulting jobs or finance roles.
3. Has the ISB brand really faded away with increase in its intake?
4. Frankly what is your suggestion for me in choosing between these 2 schools. I have no constraint on money and no inclination towards living in either of the country.

Rohit,
I see that you had also posted early last year. The question I had posed still remains. It is not clear as to the years of your total work experience. If it is a total of 2, then you might be a year too soon in applying. If not, then there's no reason not to try assuming you can improve that GMAT score.
Feel free to reach out to us for help.
Cheers,

Dear Kamalprez,
Not sure if this is already too late, but I would recommend ISB in this case without doubt. There is really no comparison between the two brands unless you are really keen on attempting a career in the US. Both your career options will be far better served at the ISB. No, the median salary range isn't a sham.
Cheers,

Name : Vibhor Prasad
BE in electronics - 2009 passout ( Private college ) Nagpur University
I have not mentioned my 10th and 12th marks as I don't think it is worth mentioning here. It is really way below average and that is my concern about getting into a good school like ISB or others.
Work Exp:
Totally in IT
Role: Software Developer
2.10 years for a small start up
2.2 for a MNC in Bangalore
Totally around 5. years of experience as of today.
The initial time I spent in the Start up was not actually core development, but a mix of designing and marketing at times. So a relevant development experience would be somewhere around 4.2 years.
I started my career as a Field engineer for a third party vendor for Reliance communication which was very short around 3 months. As this job was not what I wanted to do but had joined only to support my self as I was not ready to accept support from my parents, after completing graduation. So I decided to start working and then plan out my future.
After I quit I joined a startup and initially worked on some page designing tasks and also as a marketing representative to bring in new projects which got me some extra income as incentives and also some exposure to client interaction, nothing fancy as in MNC's though.
I stayed in this company as it was a good learning experience since I was involved in almost all aspects of the business starting from getting a new project to development, delivery and maintenance and at times pricing also.
After I convinced my self that I was ready to move to a MNC, I started giving interviews but telephonic and Skype interviews were not working out so I decide to quit and moved to Bangalore.
Got myself a good job in 3 months and have been working there since.
I believe I have not got things easily, which has helped me gain strength to tackle all kinds of situation and made me capable of taking tough decisions.
My biggest concern tough of getting into a good school like ISB or any other school in that category is that my academic record is way below average though the success curve ends better with a good performance in the final semester.
Is there a way I can compensate for this with a good GMAT score?

Vibhor,
A few points for your consideration:
- The grades are what they are and are not going away. Even so, there are things you can do to partially overcome that handicap. Read here for more on this. High school grades do not have a lot of significance but in your case, if the undergrad hasn't been great, it can make for a bad academic graph. So make sure you work on this factor well
- The nature of your experience is not clear at all. What kind of software development are we talking about? Is the brand name of this MNC well recognized? Have you had good achievements at your workplaces? All this information is necessary to get a better sense of your profile's strength. Purely basis the number, you are definitely in the right experience bracket for a school such as ISB. But it is never just the numbers.
Cheers,

yes, undergrad has not been significant, but I scored 72% in the final semester, over all is 60% which is ok as per Nagpur university standards considering companies like Infy come at 53-55% for campus. Spare me if this is not a good example.
As for my experience, I am a developer working on Microsoft technologies(Asp.net, MVC, C# SQL etc.).It is mid level company but a known name in the Healthcare software industry(Sunquest Information Systems).
I have done fairly good.
What should be my approach now. Your guidance is much appreciated.
Thanks
Vibhor

For the moment, concentrate on getting a kick-a** GMAT score, worry about other things later. You will find a lot of free tips/resources on our website here.
