Hi,

I have my interview scheduled for EPGP at Bangalore. I have some questions regarding this course.

I have an experience of more than 7 and half years in downstream petroleum sector (gov PSU). Is there any candidate similar to my profile in the present batch.(2012-13)

I suppose Shell was one of the company which visted EPGP campus, did it hire anybody and for what position and role ? The downstream petroleum sector in India is mostly state controlled.

Are there any other companies visiting campus which may be suitable for my profile.I have been in cross country pipeline construction project, its operation and currently in bulk LPG Import facility. All these were mostly technical roles. Can I migrate to other areas like Consulting or Operations management or supply chain management or general management where my prior experience might be helpful? I think supply chain management will closely match my profile. (Pipeline operations and Bulk LPG handling as a part of countrywide distribution of products)

Hi,

I have around 8 years of experience in IT industry, with 4.5 years in Europe & UK in client facing development projects. I am planning to take up GMAT soon and expect a score in the range of 710-720. My post MBA expectation is to take-up IT related consulting roles.
Acads: above average, if not exceptional
Extra Curriculars: average.
Have 2 questions:
1. How do you think my application matches up for IIMB?
2. Will 1 yr EPGP help me achieve my goal?

Thanks.

1. Your profile is not different from the vast majority of the applicants. you will need to distinguish it from the masses to have a good shot at getting in.

2. Most of the junta are interested in getting into consulting and we did see a couple of consulting companies visit the campus. (please refer to the list of companies in my earlier post on this same thread).

Drop me an email if you want to discuss further.

Focusmba,

Sorry for the delay.

I will attempt to answer your questions as per below:

DOs when you are at IIMB EPGP

- Build a strong network during your time on the campus. Interact with industry people, renew your old connections in organisations that you have worked before.

- Pick electives that interest you, even if these might be little "off the beaten track"

- Participate in various B-School competitions that you may have access to. Paper presentations, case studies etc.

- Have at least 2 to 3 possible career paths after the programme.

- Have a fallback plan. If things don't go according to your plan , what will be your Plan B? Have a firm idea of this.

- During interviews highlight any extra curricular activities that you may have done and projects that you have done particularly if you are looking for a change of industry.

DONTs (including placements) for IIMB EPGP

- don't give an undue weightage to your studies. Try your best to involve yourself in extra-curricular activities.

- don't completely disregard your past experience even if it is purely technical. Lot of companies do need techno-managers.

- don't apply for companies/roles that do not interest you.

- do not sit on the fence during the course of the interviews if it is obvious that the role doesnt interest you. Make it clear that the role either interests you or it doesnt.

- don't completely rely on the institute for placements. Make your own efforts as well.

How to select Comprehensive Projects

Personally I think it is really critical only if you are trying to change your industry. It gives you an opportunity to learn something new and showcase that during interviews.

Hi,

I’m interested in IIM-B EPGP programme. Would just brief you up regarding my profile so as to provide you of a fair idea of my capabilities/ strength areas.

Profile:

Class X – 84.6%
Class XII – 84.4%; ranked amongst top 0.1% of students appeared for the C.B.S.E. Accountancy exam
B.com – 79%
Also, completed professional studies I.e. CFA (ICFAI), MS- Finance (ICFAI) & M.com

Work experience:

Worked in the investment banking team of Citigroup with investment bankers across the globe on M&A deals involving the preparation of pitch books, financial statement analysis etc.
Duration- 1 year

Currently working in the Research & consulting team of CARE Ratings (one of India’s leading rating agency) with the job profile involving the foll:
• Tracking sectors in the infrastructure & service segment such as Retail, Shipping, Education, Ports etc
• Working on consulting assignments such as market sizing, feasibility studies, competitive analysis etc
Duration – 5 years

Career goal:
Work with a globally reputed consulting organisation such as Mckinsey, BCG, Bain etc. or in the corporate strategy / project finance team of any reputed Indian conglomerate such as TATA, Birla etc.

Q) With an overall experience of appx. 6 yrs and the profile as detailed above, how are my chances of making it to IIMB EPGP?

Q) What should be the GMAT score should I target

Q) How are the placements for this programme at IIMB? Does the entire batch get placed every year? Through hearsay the placements for this programme are not guaranteed by IIMB as such 15-20% of the batch size every year (excluding those company sponsored employees returning to their erstwhile employers) do not find on campus placements.

Q) Since almost 90% of the batch for this programme hails from IT background, is there any focus as far as placements for students from Finance background is concerned? If you can detail the names of few companies recruiting for the financial services domain (especially consulting / strategy) wuld be great

Would be really great to know of your perspectives in light of the questions above.

Hello,

I am in the process of applying for the program, and I have some questions that I'm hoping someone who has been through this can answer.

I have 17 years of experience in software product development companies. My current role is a senior engineer and working towards first level software development manager.

Post MBA I want to pursue either a Product Management role or an appropriate senior role in startups or mid/large size product companies.

Currently, I'm in US and have an option to take an internal transfer. The package is likely to be very attractive (35 lacs + 15 lacs RSUs). I'm wondering whether I'll be making a mistake by forgoing this in favor of MBA. What should I expect to get Post MBA? What about 2-3 years down the line? At this stage of life, the financial angle is important for me :)

I have no doubts about the learning that I will gain from MBA, just the financial part is what I'm trying to make sense of.

Any insights will be very helpful.

Thanks
