Hi,

I am chemical enng. grad with five years of experience. I have booked my slot in the month of july this year. I am very upset with my score in verbal. I gave both the test in gmat prep software my quant score is somewhere around 47 but verbal score is just 17. I am really upset with the verbal score and practice OG verbal question on daily basis and I don't know how to improve it. My total score is around 520

I want 720+ to get in ISB, IIM. Please help me how to improve the scores in
verbal section

Here are our thoughts and tips on how you can improve your GMAT score:
1. Continuing practicing is the best way to score well on the test. The more you practice the higher the possibilty that you get a a good score on the test.
2. Besides the practice we advise you to work on the mistakes you make. You should analyze and categorize them to understand what you have to do to avoid them. It can be a simple lack of theory base or maybe you need additional help in understanding of some particular topics. When you understand why you make mistakes you can understand how to avoid them.

I am trying too hard to figure out where I lag in verbal, but it seems that all is going in vain as compared to last time score there is small advance in my verbal scores..this time a gave two online sample test with two days gap, the results are same for both the test - 590, with Quant - 43 and verbal - 21. I am not able to figure out whats the issue. my gmat is scheduled on 17th of july2012.

Further can you all please provide free online gmat test links, but authentic.

What we can suggest you is to deeply analyze what are your exact weak areas in Verbal Section. Whether it is RC, CR or SC, you do have to have the clear understanding of where your performance is not so good.

Can anyone help me understand this questions from 800score.com ? I stumbled upon this questions when i was reviewing the concepts for permutation.

In England three digit area codes are to be given to each town and the government is looking for a trial run. The first digit will be any number from 0-9 both numbers not inclusive, the second digit can only be either 1 or 3, and the third digit can be any number from 2-9 both the numbers not inclusive How many different area codes can be issued in India if the government plans to execute this plan?

The review of the above question by 800score according to me is as follows.
In the above questions first you have to understand how many places are required to be filled in. The area code has to be a three digit number. So, the number of places are 3. The first digit can only be any number from 0-9(including both) so you have 10 options and the first blank can be filled in 10 ways.
Similarly the second blank can be filled in 2 ways and the third blank can be filled in 8 ways as 2-9 including both the number is 8.
So, the answer is

10 X 2 X 8 = 160

Following are the few tips which can really help you in cracking the GMAT examination. The people who conduct the exam, about 30% of the 8,000 test takers that they sampled put in four to six weeks to prepare, and 18% put in seven to nine weeks of preparation.
A further 17% put in ten weeks or more. That means 65% of test takers sampled by GMAC put in at least 4 weeks to prepare for the exam, and 35% put in significantly more than this amount of time. GMAC itself states that its results indicate students who put in more hours studying for the GMAT tend to do better on it.
It takes some serious and smart study to crack this exam. As a GMAT aspirant I regularly practice online questions.

I had practice around 3000 of GMAT verbal and 2000 of GMAT QUANT,
I would like to know that out of any practice questions will there be any possibility of getting the same questions during the REAL GMAT exam that I'm going to appear?

I'm not sure where you got those questions from. But if you are referring to the official questions from GMAC, these are all 'retired' questions that are no longer part of the live GMAT question bank used in the real exam.

Though you may get similar looking questions (that test more or less the same concepts), the likelihood of getting the exact same questions is very low.
