Slight hinderance, as most leading business schools prefer candidates who don't already have an MBA. This may help: MBA programs in USA accepting second MBA applicants

The financing agency will carry out a credit rating analysis based on your status and then decide. Having earlier obligations will impact their decision.
vichitraks wrote:3. Placement reports are quite misleading in terms of average packages and recruiters and can not be relied upon so how relevant are these reports for taking this decision.
Placement statistics generalise the situation by clubbing everyone in the same pool. Your salary may not necessarily fall in the range they provide.
vichitraks wrote:4. I have read that average ROI time (MBA expense + opportunity cost i.e. your 1 yr Salary) comes in 2-3 years itself from decent B schools but I also know about few friends who had to struggle a lot to even get basic jobs after doing MBA from very decent colleges.
Not sure where you got that data. Here's what we've found out on the payback time for MBA students of popular business school.

Hi,

I took my GMAT today and scored 720. My score in previous attempt was 640. Below is break-up of my 2 scores

GMAT 1 - 640 Q47/V31 IR 6
GMAT 2 - 720 Q47/V41 IR 1

I am really concerned about my low IR score in second attempt. I am targeting tier-1 B-Schools in US and India. Can you please shed some light on whether I need to retake GMAT?

My target schools are -

US - Yale/Wharton/Chicago Booth
India - IIM/ISB

A few things to keep in mind:

The bad part:

- Generally speaking, (specially for the bschools you are targetting) it's best to have 1 score that holistically reflects your best potential.

- Re-taking would've been ideal to avoid getting into justification mode in the application. But time is not on your side right now.

The good part:

- The report sent to the bschools by GMAC will contain the historical score too. So they can see that the earlier IR score was ok.

- While bschools have started looking at IR scores now compared to the earlier season where many would completely ignore it, the IR score is still not such a critical piece of puzzle.

Given the situation we are in, I'd suggest going ahead with the current score and ensuring that the rest of you application floors the admission officers.

If the role it similar (e.g. software development in both), it won't help. However a more business oriented role at either companies would help. Otherwise, don't leave the bird in hand for what's in the bush.

Not much. A better option would be to focus on building your professional profile and making the extra-curriculars less relevant.

Hi,

I read you Book, Beyond the MBA Hype and trust me, It helped a lot. Though I am left with some doubts which are from my present Scenario.

I will be taking GMAT this year and wanted to apply to Singapore and European B schools for my 1 year MBA as I am not too keen to do an MBA from US (Affordability + Limited options of 1yr MBA).
There are several doubts which I am facing. Please help me with these issues by suggesting how much reality or myth they are.
1. Visa restrictions in UK. ( Indian Students have to come back immediately after finishing the course which do not leave them a chance of finding the JOB. Even employers do not prefer Indian Candidates as they have sponsor their employees and Indian Candidates have a heavy disadvantage in this scenario, which means one should not apply to Cambridge Judge, Oxford Said and other Great Schools) What is the actual scenario and Is there a way of Tackling it?
2. If one leaves UK then one is left with options like Italy/Spain/Paris/Germany/Switzerland- having some of the other decent colleges. (What I have been able to conclude is that one is supposed to learn at least one of the local languages(German, Spanish, Italian) depending upon the place one gets into. If one just speak English, it again makes you difficult to land a Job and removes you from the preferred list of recruiters. Is it completely True?
3. So over all, life becomes difficult for an Indian who speaks English and Hindi only and wants to study in Europe. So if both the above arguments are somewhat true, what should a guy do if he wants to do a one year MBA(From the likes of Said, Judge, HEC, SDA BOCCONI) in Europe?
4. My Last questions comes from the assumption that all of the above is True so my only resort which is left is Insead Singapore, NUS and Nanyang. How do you compare doing an MBA from Singapore as compared to that in Europe and considering all these restrictions what will be an optimum choice for me?

Happy to hear that. Can you please share a review on the site you got it from?

Coming to your other queries, the risk of getting a job increases multi-fold the minute one steps out of India. It's true for not just the UK, Europe, but for Singapore and US too.

For certain customer-facing roles, the risk increases when there's a language and culture disconnect,

Which is why it's always good to have a backup option rather than depend on the bschool for placements.

Go ahead and apply. Those are good bschools. Employers are aware of the visa rules and many start the MBA recruitment process early.

Read what the Cambridge MBA admissions director says about MBA placements in UK after the visa constraints.
