I am an Indian male, 30 yrs, work exp. 4 yrs 10 months (a gap of 2 years as I was preparing for engineering competition from 2003-05), have done my 10th (77%) in 2001& 12th (82%) in 2003, then completed my B.tech, Mechanical (7.7 DGPA ) in 2009 from one of the private colleges in West Bengal, got selected in campus for Infosys Tech Ltd, joined in Feb 2010 & resigned in may 2010 to join one of the leading steel plant in India in June 2010, at that point of time It was clear to me that I want to pursue my career in core sector.
I have played different roles including maintenance & operation engineer, project installation & commissioning of steel plant, Heading the TPM activity for my department, Successfully guiding my colleagues (juniors i.e workers) for different international presentations (Quality Circle).
But after almost 5 years in this role the life seems to be engulfed with monotony, so I want to go forth and do MBA ( 1 yr full time )
1.) Is my profile suitable for MBA
2.) Which specialization/program would be best for me ( I would love working for manufacturing sector, the only thing is that present role is not so challenging)
3.) Should I gain some more experience in projects i.e planning, installation & commissioning of steel plant before thinking of MBA, as I have heard that project exposure is good for MBA profile (as my company is willing to switch me into projects seeing my previous success in this field)
4.) What should be my study strategy ( I have stared preparing beginning with GMAT OG, willing to appear in Oct 2015)
Thanks
Anup

I read Shipra’s low gmat score success story and that gave me some hope. I have been looking at the one year programs at Indian colleges like ISB, XLRI, IIMA, IIMB and SP Jain and I feel my score is too low to get even an interview call from these colleges. I am open to apply to foreign schools but will prefer an Indian college. I was wondering if you can advise me on whether I should take the GMAT again or I should proceed with the applications based on the current score.

You should be asking if an MBA is suitable for you, rather than the other way around.akjlibra wrote:1.) Is my profile suitable for MBA
You could explore various functions within the manufacturing sector. Consulting, marketing, finance and general strategy tend to be popular.akjlibra wrote:2.) For American 2 year MBA programs, the amount of experience is fine. For one year programs in Europe, you could aim to get more management experience.akjlibra wrote:3.) The GMAT Official Guide is a good starting point. Once you are done with it, you could explore topic-specific material to strengthen the weak areas.akjlibra wrote:4.) What should be my study strategy ( I have stared preparing beginning with GMAT OG, willing to appear in Oct 2015)

Latika, the score you got is within the range you were getting in the mock tests.Latika wrote:I recently took the GMAT (on 24th March 2015) and scored a meagre 640 on 800. The mock tests had also been in the range of 600 and 650.

Re-taking it with some minor incremental changes aren't likely to yield majorly different results.
There's plenty of time left for applications. If you are aware of the specific weak areas (concepts, timing, practice, difficulty level) and can get some help in fixing them, then it might be worth a shot.
In the worst case (if you score lower than the current score), schools will still take the highest of the lot.

Currently have 9+ yrs of exp. Also my 10+2 score is only 52%, 10th(76%), B-Tech 71%. (Not from Tire1/Tire2 like IIT or NIT).

My Acads are

Extracurricular Activities:
1. I worked as a Volunteer in Jagruthi Yuva sena Foundation.

3. I worked as a Volunteer in Tech Fests in my college during Graduation.
4. I got 1st prize in School level competition when I was in School.
5. Participated in many technical Quizzes during Graduation.
Post MBA goal:
1. like to work as a Consultant in Fortune 500 Orgs (Short term goal)
2. Wants to start a Small Enterprise in the long run
I have taken 2 mock tests (GMAT club & Economist Tutor) without AWA
1. GMAT club test score
Total 640(Q 37 & V31) IR 4
2. Economist Tutor test score
Total 630(Q 39 & V29), IR 4
In Verbal my weak zone is RC. How to ace RC passges to get a 40+ score in Verbal?
Im stuck b/w above total scores. How to improve to get 700+ score?

In your position, I'd skip NM and look at GMAT options.shitij0412 wrote:AS OF NOW I AM HEAVILY CONFUSED AS TO CHOOSE NM OR LET IT GO AND TRY FOR ISB/NUS/MBS/AGSM/NANYANG..

When GMAC allows you to target 800, why aim for anything less? Try to aim for the max possible. And we then work with whatever you are able to achieve. As a general rule, if you are above the average score for your target bschool, you'd be fine.Seema wrote:1. What GMAT score should i target to get into a good b-school.
We can't speculate for this reason.Seema wrote:2. What are my chances of getting into a good b school...I am particularly looking for scholarships from good b schools. Would this be feasible looking at my profile.
Yes, we do. Check out this link and this one.Seema wrote:3. Do you guys provide help with the admission process as well?
Sorry, but we aren't able to provide concrete and helpful answers if the questions are too generic.
