Are they enough for preparation or do I need to buy more books? Please tell me.
More than sufficient to get started, Maya. Don't overload yourself with books.
For most folks, this is enough to clear the concepts and get some good practice.

For some of the IIMS, and for Round 1 deadlines in general, it might be too late to start.

GMAT scores cannot compensate for work-experience. Your Libya experience is good enough, if you did interesting work there.

Get into a bschool that gets many consulting firms.

Bad idea! You can prepare for the GMAT along with your current job.
Plus unless you have a strong plan, you can't leave the business world to get an exposure to business.

Yes, it will. The question is - when all other applicants can manage GMAT prep along with their jobs, why couldn't you do it?

The 5-year validity would've expired by then.
You'd be better off re-taking the test, as a recent score gives bschools a better idea of your current capability rather than what it was 5 years back.

Hi Team ,
First here is my profile..
I am currently working as a software engineer with a reputed company from last 5 years but from last two years I am working on the role of test manager in the team.I have 14 months of onsite experience also.
In Extra curricular activities I have organized many events in my university and company.
Now regarding the GMAT .I have taken GMAT twice .First I got 610 score and second time I only got 580 mostly because I have to go to onsite in between my preparation but I took the paper despite of that and got screwed.
I know my GMAT score is comparatively very low to get admissions in top colleges in the world. But I really want to get admission next year.So please let me know are not there any good colleges may be in US,Canada or Europe in which I can apply with this score.
I am also thinking to give GMAT again but I think it will again take my 2-3 months and score is also not a guarantee plus most of the R1 deadlines will be over by that time and in my knowledge its difficult to get admission in R2
So I am really confused as I want to move ahead from IT job and want to do MBA in finance or consulting.I took IT job only to get some experience as I never had interest in coding but always want to do MBA.But now I am stuck between low score and passing time.
Please give me suggestions how to move ahead .

You know what the reasons for the low score are. And you know that you can do much better.
In such a situation, retaking the GMAT exam is the best option.

Rather than aiming too low in Round 1 with the current score, with a better score, you could still target a few decent scores

Finance and consulting jobs value pedigree. Getting into a mediocre school might get you into USA, but you might struggle after graduating.
Don't rush into applications when you know you can do much better.

Hi Sameer
One can submit the GMAT score to a maximum of 5 institutes on the day of the test. My query is that for how long is this submission valid i.e if I take the test in 2014 and also send my score to these institutes but I wish to apply in the fall of 2016, will the score be still valid then? Or will I have to send my score to these institutes again?

They'll be valid for 5 years, Stuti. You don't need to re-send them to the same insitutes.
If you re-take the test subsequently, then you'll have to re-send.

Hi,
I took my GMAT yesterday and scored 690 (Quant - 45, 63 Percentile; Verbal - 40, 91 Percentile) with overall Percentile 87. My target score was 700+ and with good preparation and growing improvements also I could not achieve it. (Don't know - maybe it was due to some poor decision making on the actual test day). I am now little bit confused about the next step. As already some application deadlines are closer for 2nd and even 3rd round, I am not sure whether to go with this score or retake the exam because breakup of the score does not show 75+ Percentile in Quant and I am biology bachelors(Learning level of Maths upto 12th Std.). I believe I can improve my quant score but I am unsure about the necessity of it. Will my improved quant percentile have an impact on my different profile as an Indian Non IT Female? (I know I am facing a great competition in quant percentile with my fellow citizens
). I would really appreciate if someone can guide me regarding the decision.
PS: I tried to post this topic in other section of GMAT Forum but could not, so included it in 'Success Stories'; I don't consider 690 as a very huge success.

Rucha,
You posted this in the wrong forum and so we missed it. I guess it's too late to respond now, as Round 2 deadlines are over.
But for the benefit of others, I'll just say that a 690 isn't too different from 700. So rather than aiming to move to the right side of the psychological 700 mark, it's better to focus on the rest of the application.
