For bschools that accept GMAT, academics are definitely important, but not as much as they are for CAT based 2-year programs.shaan mukherjee wrote:i want to know how much importance does acads have in gmat admission .

If you have a high GMAT score and excellent professional accomplishments, admission officers may still consider the application seriously.
So you'd need to work on both. Start with the GMAT score, as that's a prequisite for all good bschools.

Post a query for the experts from GoGMAT on the --> GMAT verbal thread.shaan mukherjee wrote:Please give me some guidance regarding Verbal Prep
Be specific in terms of the section and the type of questions you are struggling with.
You can request them to give you sample questions of varying difficulty levels. Rather than simply solving them, also explain the rationale you used to arrive at the answer.
Maybe that'll help.

I am planning to apply for ISB this year. Considering the fact that I have not yet started my GMAT preparation (and I am weak in quants), do I have sufficient time? I know this is a rather subjective question but would be happy if you can provide some general guidance.
I do travel quite a bit on work. So, are there good resources available online that could help me in preparation (instead of a regular coaching class)?
Thanks!
Deb

Yes, Deb. There's enough time. Generally folks put in 2-3 months of dedicated preparation time.Deb wrote:Considering the fact that I have not yet started my GMAT preparation (and I am weak in quants), do I have sufficient time?
There are many resources that allow you to study online. GMAT Club and Beat the GMAT have free resources.Deb wrote:I do travel quite a bit on work. So, are there good resources available online that could help me in preparation (instead of a regular coaching class)?
If you are looking for more structure, then something like the this online GMAT course by GoGMAT might be worth exploring. They have a free trial.
See if something like that works for you.
Irrespective of the study material you use, ensure that you keep practising a little bit each day. Long breaks followed by sudden spikes in the GMAT preparation time won't help.

I need guidance from someone like you who have immense experience and vast knowledge regarding the mba. I graduated last year from engg. college in himachal pardesh. Then i went to delhi, took coaching classes and decided to appear for CAT 2012. unfortunately i got a unsatisfactory score (73 % ile). After that i went back home (due to some work ). Now i planned to appear for GMAT, this time hopeful of getting good score and after gaining 2-3 yrs experience in any company, applying in top U.S universities.
my queries:
1. i have dropped a year on my CV , how can i cover that (any juggad)?
2. i want to apply for universities like kellogg, stanford, tuck, wharton, etc. can u suggest me ways to enhance my profile. how can i reach from here to there. ( my profile
10 th - 84 %
10+2 - 85%
b.tech -73 %)
3. For gmat prep, i am confused on which coaching institute to join. i have heard of princton and veritas perp. can u suggest me any institue.
regards,
jaskirat

Jugaads don't work with the top bschools, Jaskirant. So your best bet is to be transparent and honest in your applications. Highlight the good parts as well. Hopefully Adcoms will see the bigger potential in your profile.jaskirat wrote:1. i have dropped a year on my CV , how can i cover that (any juggad)?
These schools are the most difficult to get into. So before you apply, try to find out whether you are aiming too high and balance out your list accordingly.jaskirat wrote:2. i want to apply for universities like kellogg, stanford, tuck, wharton, etc. can u suggest me ways to enhance my profile.
In terms of the profile, personally I don't think you are ready for international bschools yet.
Spend a few years gaining some good professional experience and then think about going abroad.
Princeton Review and Veritas Prep have been around for a long time. You could go with either of them. The online GMAT prep programs might be expensive though. Many use a combination of books to get started.jaskirat wrote:3. For gmat prep, ...i have heard of princton and veritas perp. can u suggest me any institue.
Here's a list of the best GMAT books to give you some direction.

Dear Mohit,
Your experience is a common one and is usually the result of having a bad day. In your case, it does look like that anxiety got the better of you. Here's what I suggest:
- Take some time to cool off. You will need to put this experience behind you and get over it.
- One of the ways to start afresh is to take up fresh material and not to revisit material you used in the first attempt. From your post, it appears you havent tried online courses. One of courses we recommend is the online GMAT course by GoGMAT.
- "Know" that you can score high. Given that you had fairly healthy scores in the mocks, the reality should not be far behind. Not getting philosophical, but if it helps, practice some techniques to control anxiety before the D-day. Sleep is an absolute MUST.
Cheers,
MG
