Hello MBA Crystal Ball Team,
I hope you can help me in clearing my doubts.

My profile:
10th – 73% (CBSE)
PUC – 58.6% (Karnataka State)
BE – 59.74% (VTU, Belgaum, Karnataka) (Computer Science)
1 year gap (Took GRE – 296, Verbal – 141, Quant – 155, AWA – 3.0, and IELTS – 72 – Unfortunately I gave up on pursuing my MS in US)
MSc. Tech [It's a kind of Post Graduation] – 7.69 (Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka) (Embedded Systems) [Includes 1 year internship] (Graduated in Nov’2015)
On 25th Nov’2015, I took GRE again, but got the same score 296, Verbal – 142, Quant – 154, waiting for official score.
Also took IELTS on 19th Nov’2015, waiting for score.

I would like to know what impact do universities have in shaping our career?
Is it fine to go for any university with my current score, or should I aim for better university with better GRE score?

‘m looking for MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Electronics and Computer Engineering.

The biggest impact it'll have would be on the first job immediately after graduation.

It's important to set the lower bar, below which you won't consider a university. Base that decision on multiple factors such as reputation, location, placements, fees and whatever else is important for you.

Despite the low GRE score, don't feel compelled to aim too low. Have a good mix of Stretch and Practical options.

Hello there.

My name is Siddharth. I took my GMAT exam on 28th November 2015 and scored a 640 (Quant-42, Verbal-37). I have been looking forward to applying for a Masters in Management course in RSM, Essec Business School, WHU Beisheim & London Business School. But I'm not sure whether my GMAT score is good enough for these top colleges. If there are any other good B-schools which might consider my applications please mention them. Further info about my profile is given below:

Xth: 84.6

XIIth: 76.2

Undergraduation: BBA in International business from Amity International business School with a CGPA of 8.1/10. Stood 2nd in a batch of 40 students and was academically consistent and came consistently in the top 2 % of the batch throughout the course of my program.

I have made several research projects as part of my curriculum which were all highly appreciated by my faculty.

Also completed 6 months of Exchange program in Birkbeck University and California State.

Extra-Curriculars:

Have been involved in Music since 2nd Grade in School and continued the trend in college. I have been awarded multiple certificates in the field of Vocal music at an inter-school, intra-school and National Level.

I formed my college band with another person and performed regularly at cultural events as well as my college fests and have been awarded certificates of appreciation for my voluntary participation.

Furthermore, I have been regularly been involved in the coordination and arrangement of various business events and seminars at my college and have been awarded certificates of participation in coordination of events such as HR meets, Corporate seminars etc.

Additionally, I was elected the Class Representative in the first year and held the position for that year.

Work Exp:

I don't have a very extensive pool of work experience, although I have worked as an intern for 5 months in a tech startup as a market researcher and social media trainee where i was responsible for creating newsletters, handling the firm's twitter page, enhancing the visibility of the firm and creating databases for the use of the firm.

Future Goals:

I want to work in the consumer electronics field as I am highly interested in technology and I understand nearly every aspect of this industry. I would like to work in brand and product management but specifically in product development and management. In the long term, I want to involve myself deeply in the smartphone and tablet business to gain a better understanding of the marketing and communication element of this field and gain further responsibilities in the mentioned field.

Hello Sir, hope you are doing great.
I recently came across SP Jain's MGB program . I am very keen on this particular program offered at SP Jain since it's an international (tri-city) and its lesser work experience requirements. Which exam should I give preference to: GMAT or SPJAT? Are the syllabus and exam pattern very different? How can I prepare myself for the SPJAT exam? (books, evaluation round etc.)
What is your opinion on MGB program?

Regards

Hi, your article is indeed helpful especially for people like us who aspire big but are in a constant dilemma of how to approach. I have done my B.E in Biotechnology (that is a 4yrs course) from Mumbai University. Now I am pursuing M.tech in Bioprocess Technology from ICT, Mumbai (formerly known as UDCT). I wish to pursue Phd in US or Canada. However, I am confused whether to apply for it immediately after M.tech or whether to take some industrial experience here in India and then go for it. Also, it would be great if you could give me some tips regarding guide selection abroad (im finding it a bit weird to decide for a guide miles away just through emails!). Are GRE, TOEFL, IELTS necessary for applying for Phd too?

Ankush,

The curriculum for both exams can be easily accessed on the internet at the respective websites - you don't really need us to understand that.

It depends on what your career aspirations are. At a very high level though, non-flagship programs have a much lesser brand value - and this is NOT SPJ's flagship program.

Cheers,

VallariC,

There is no rule here, but if you do plan to go for a PhD, sooner the better. So now would be the right time really.

The GRE and other requirements vary by program - so you should check with the individual school/program on that.

For guide selection, no other way than web search and emails. Some future guides might be willing to have a telephonic but that is rare.

Hope this helps some

Cheers,

Hi,

I am 24, a fresh Chartered Accountant and plan to do MBA in the future. I intend to pursue a career in corporate/strategic consultancy. I need your help with the following:

1. At what position should I apply at these firms?
2. Should I first get some experience with a startup/ corporate job before applying for a job at consulting ?
3. Any other inputs you feel are helpful.

Hope to hear from you soon!!

Thanks a lot for the initiative
