Now im applying for a phd in finance in mba college like hec paris, essec and the likes.
For programs that accept GRE and GMAT score, if you look at the GRE to GMAT conversion table, the score is pretty low.
For competitive PhD programs this can be a serious hurdle to cross. It'll be better if you can take the score higher than the median for your target PhD courses.
It's not just about meeting the earliest deadline. It's also about applying when you have the strongest possible application. And right now, you aren't there yet.ChirayuChamoli wrote:but there are this school iese that has last date on 10th jan so im in a fix.
That's a call you'd need to take. But keep in mind that there are no guarantees that the GMAT score will be higher than the current GRE score.ChirayuChamoli wrote:Also do you think it is advisable to write gmat than gre?
Also, you'd have to start pretty much from start as the format and focus of the two entrance exams are different.

i agree its a very low score. actually i was only focussed on getting a 160+ in quants sec and neglected verbal. anyways i think its better to write gre than gmat then as i already have familiarity with it.
also i wanted to ask you that how does my application generally looks for a research position?????. im still going to try for some schools in europe like bocconi and frankfurt school of finance and mgm. frankfurt have no obligation to submit a gre.
And i would give gre again and try to get a better score. then would apply for schools having a later deadline.
Thanks again for such hard work you are putting in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our conservative antenna starts tingling when someone talks about jumping into new, untested courses. But that's just us.Ankurg wrote:its a new program and will be starting in Feb, 2015

I have completed my B.Com(Pass) last year in June,2014 from Bundelkhand University in Jhansi,a State Govt. University of UP.
The marking is very rigid here, more so as compared to private universities. I have scored a meagre 57 % overall.
Though mine was a regular course, but I didn't go to college for a single day except for giving exams. I was no exception as this is the norm here and classes are rarely held.
I enrolled in such a college because I was pursuing Chartered Accountancy(CA) course which I left after clearing its Entrance though I have completed its 1-month long IT training and 5-days Orientation Programme.
My scores are:-
2009 Class10,CBSE 93% from Jhansi
2011 Class12,CBSE 80% from Jhansi
2014 B.Com(Pass) 57% from Bundelkhand Univ.,Jhansi
One Year has passed since I graduated.
The only way I suppose; it can be shown utilised it is experience in my father's business, however, it is not true in reality.
Sir, I feel very depressed and dejected.
I have ruined my life from my own hands.
My real elder brother who is an engineer is pursuing his MBA from Columbia University.
Sir, is there any course I can do now to build my career professionally given my profile?
I want to settle abroad in the Americas or Europe like my siblings.Am I eligible to even dream that?
Do I have a chance in courses like M.Sc in Management ,Finance or some other which will land me a decent job and allow me to build a respectable career there?
The only thing I have with me today is willingness to work the hardest possible from now on if there's any way that remains in the world for me to get rid of my past mistakes.
And I just hope that you will be able to show me that way or path.
Eagerly waiting for your reply! Thanks.

Ayush, if I can be brutally honest here, given your academic experience with the earlier degrees, I don't think you should try for any higher education abroad.
Things won't become easier after getting an admission. On the contrary, the curriculum can be very demanding and the pressure is more intense.
It might be better for you to take up a job in India and gain some practical / technical skills. After you gain some experience you can decide if you want to study further.

Yes, MiM courses are meant for folks who don't have the necessary experience for a regular MBA degree.prakhar2509 wrote:1) Are MIM programs good for fresh graduates like me with zero experience
You can, but it gets more difficult to convince international recruiters.prakhar2509 wrote:2) can i get a job after MIM For gaining work eexperience
MiM is more popular in Europe. Which is why you don't see many options in USA.prakhar2509 wrote:3) can you please tell me some good MIM programs Names US Because I just didnt find any in Internet
There are the regular M.S. (Masters) degrees, but these are generally more technical in nature and very focused on a niche area.prakhar2509 wrote:4) OR PLease tell me some other good management degrees that i can pursue in USA without work exxperience
This article may help - MBA vs Masters in Management (MiM)

Actually, the B.Com degree I have can't be called an academic experience at all. It is a degree for namesake.
Yes,I did leave CA which has lead to my academic debacle. That was partly also a result of irregular and private nature of studies in CA,besides it being one of the toughest courses with extremely low passing percentage.
I think that if I work hard,I will be able to do much better in a regular course. My performance till 12th std. has been good.
With my current profile,I cannot expect any decent job.
Can you suggest any worthwhile course in India only or even abroad that I can do from a college where I will be able to get admission?
Financial expenses is not that big an issue for me if they can result in a commensurate employment or a starting point where there remains scope for future progression.
I know that I can't expect admit from a top college.
But any decent college with a good course that has scope to excel if one performs well in it will suffice for me.
I only want a direction and a starting point to move further where I can get an opportunity to reduce the impact of my past follies.
Thanks.
