Lakshman.S,
Getting on with your queries:
1. With 9 years of experience, if you aren't stagnated, or if you aren't planning a major career change, if I were you, I wouldn't think of an MBA. Moreover, given your new responsibilities (marriage, family, etc.), an MBA (investment - money, time) might not be the right thing to do.
2. Since you have spent the major portion of your career in market research / consulting within the power sector, did you position yourself as an SME-type profile at the consulting firm you applied to? Actually, with 9 years of experience, you might fall a little short of the number of years of specialized knowledge consulting firms expect their SMEs to have (typically they expect around 10-15 years of solid specialized knowledge). If I were you, I would get back into market research / consulting, spend a few more years - take on some really challenging / showcase projects, and beef up my resume. I would then apply for an Associate Principal-level SME-type role. Nobody is going to ask for a finance / MBA background then.
3. If by "similar profile", you are referring to a market research / consulting profile within power, I wouldn't know. If you are looking for a management consulting role abroad, I think it would be quite a long shot, though armed with a nice resume amd a great story, and with the right contacts/networking, it isn't impossible.
Let us know if you have further questions / queries.
