I have 10+ years of experience in telecom industry with engineering background. I have a technical background with a couple of promotions and recognitions. I am looking for a career switch right now to move into management side now. I have a couple of industries in mind which I am interested to move to like consulting, healthcare etc.

what do you think is a good option for me? a one year MBA would help? or should I go for some specific certification program?

Do you think MBA is a good option considering the years of experience?

A full-time 1 year MBA would be better than short-term courses.

However, be aware that number of options in India and abroad are limited. Most business schools will start looking at you as a prospective Executive MBA candidate.

Work a good reason why a full-time MBA works better than EMBA for you.

Could you suggest a kick start point as well to get started. I have already started prep for GMAT. I guess profile building is on equally important task?

Career switch after MBA is tougher for those with a lot of experience.

Profile building works better for those with lesser experience. At this stage, you already have a lot of experience under your belt, and it's tougher to alter the career direction significantly before the MBA. Focus more on packaging and presenting what you already have.

Educational :
I am a graduate Mechanical Engineer from Thapar Institute of Engineering & technology . I passed out in 2003 (CGPA 6.2 on 10 point scale).
I had been a topper throughout my schooling.

Professional:
Over last 13 years I have gained knowledge & experience in manufacturing and supply chain areas in Steel, automobile and Mining & construction equipment industries. I have worked on several projects varying form Costing, cost cutting, value analysis & Value engineering, Project management, SAP implementation, Product development and Technology transfer ,vendor development etc. during these years.
I have traveled to Europe many times and have worked in global teams extensively.

Currently I am working in a Finland based MNC, in the field of mining & construction equipment manufacturing in India as Product Development Manager.


To hone my management skills and to take my career to next level , I am looking to invest one year studying MBA from a school of global repute.
I want to take product management/operations management/General management roles after MBA.


Quitting job and studying at this stage of age & carrier will be a very big step for me (a 35 year old male) as I am married and have a 1 year old kid. Also, I do not have big savings so a lot depends on my securing big scholarship. My savings can only support my living,with wife and kid, abroad for one year.


I & My family have Australian Permanent resident Visa so Australian schools will work better for me but at the same time I am not sure about the outcome of MBA in Australia.

Could you please advise what will be the good GMAT score and which schools I should target.

I understand you will be receiving lot many queries everyday but your taking time out to guide me will matter a lot to person who really does not want let his dream go unfulfilled . I have read some blogs and have seen how you helped people realize their goals and I am writing to you expecting the same.

We've also got your details via the free profile evaluation form. Will skip the duplicate responses and stick to this query.

Any good MBA degree will give you a basic grounding on business basics - nothing more, nothing less. For the rest of the journey (i.e. getting the job you want), you'll have to try independently.

The Australian PR sure will help. But also keep in mind that MBA is not exactly known to be the land of MBA opportunities.

A lot will also depend on whether the recruiter finds your skills and the new degree combo relevant enough to choose over a local candidate.

Can't take a guess on scholarships, but as a general rule, the lower the ranking the higher the financial aid.

Since this is such an important career move for you, it would've been better to focus more on the right program and what you can do for you, rather than how much you'll save.

But the whole idea would be pointless if your financial health doesn't allow you to take such a risk. Don't put your family's future in jeopardy by investing all your savings in something that doesn't have any guaranteed outcome.

Education: - graduating 40 %, MBA from symbiosis distance learning with 72%

I have 6 years of work experience that includes creative animation, B2B sales and now in digital marketing

I do have some certificate forces in animation I am looking forward to do MBA in International Marketing

will opting for diploma courses is a good option???

Every country has programs that drop the bar when it comes to academic performance, test scores, experience levels. But do your background research about those.

Since you already have a distance MBA (which I assume hasn't given you what you were expecting from it), it won't help if you go through the pain and expense all over again to end up with another degree that doesn't help.
