Dear Sir / Madam,

I am a working IT professional and planning for a career in management field.
I am planning to appear GMAT, aiming for some of the best B schools abroad India.

Please find a snapshot of my profile below:

Work experience: 4 years. (current company: SAP Labs, previous company: ATOS)
Working on SAP ERP (HR applications)
Social committee Member at SAP Labs.
Client appreciation for innovative solution and consultation.

B.Tech: 86.2%
12th : 82%
10th : 87%

Extracurricular:
- Started a Independent Organisations for Development of Orphanages.
- Passionate Photographer.
- Participated in National Conferences in college.

Could you please let me know, how suitable the profile to be selected for MBA programs in any reputed institutes abroad.

I also need some detailed information regarding Admission procedures, cost of study etc.

I will really appreciate your guidance as I am interested to get into some of the best colleges and need to know about scholarship facilities.

Given the limited data you've shared and not having an indepth understanding of your profile and aspirations, I'd go with ISB as it's the best 1-year MBA brand in India.

But I hope your decision making is a little more sophisticated than what I've used here due to the lack of additional data.

Like most Indian MBA aspirants, you are using the wrong terminology. Read this post first --> Executive MBA vs MBA for Executives – The Big Indian Confusion.

With your experience level, you have crossed the stage where a conventional 2-year CAT-based MBA would be beneficial.

And it's too early to consider 'Executive MBA' programs (if we are both aligned on the true technical definition of that term).

In your position, I'd focus on full-time GMAT based MBA programs in India and abroad.

Your queries are too generic for this thread. It would be impossible for me to give you 'detailed information regarding Admission procedures, cost of study etc' in this teeny weeny modest little thread we are running.

Follow that up with some time on bschool websites to get an idea of how the process works for specific schools.

It'll take a while to absorb the information available, but your queries will get specific very soon.

Iam worried about my future, I did my msc in computer science, got a job in an small IT company in bangalore in 2006, but due to some reasons the company closed down and i had to join a bpo for my financial condition, after a year i quit and was trying to get back in the IT field, but I had to wait for a year and finally landed in a IT company but that too was short lived after a year and a half, due to the economic condition the company had to layoff people and i was among one of them, so currently iam doing some freelance work and simultaneously looking for work, but nothing's happening for the past 1 year, So Iam planning to do an MBA in a b-school in bangalore, so in your opinion should i join a b-school for 2 years (age is 29 now), will i get placed in any company coming for placements or it will go the freshers and better experienced candidates, pls help!!

Thanks Sameer. But what about RoI and smaller batch size?

Sorry to hear that things haven't been going your way.

But you might need to reconsider your MBA plans, if you are thinking that it's an alternative option to job-hunting.

If with your existing hard skills and experience, you are finding it tough to find relevant jobs, would an academic degree change the situation completely?

Just think a little more about it before you take any decision.

Read your book a couple of months back; it was an eye-opener.
Even though it is a little late- thank you for writing it.

So a little background-
I have one of those typical Indian-IT-Male profiles, decent but nothing stands out.
Okay scores during school and college, work ex. as a developer in an IT multinational, and slightly better than average work profile for someone working in my capacity. But nothing stellar, no awesome stories to tell, no 'saving the world' examples.
Did manage a decent score on GMAT though.

I am planning to apply to colleges for 2014 session with focus on either Marketing or Consulting (Technology or otherwise)..haven't made up my mind on that one yet.
This is where the plan ends. I am totally stumped on college choices.

I liked your MBA MAP service, but is it too early to go for it ? (A whole year before I apply)
I have a year to shape my profile, yet no idea on how to go about it. Any advice is helpful.

You have a plan a whole year before applying. That's a good start. Many defer the planning till the last minute assuming it'll all fall in place magically.

Yes, too early for it. A better time to take it up would be around April/May. So you've got a few more months to mould that experience and notch up some more accomplishments.

The way you've described your profile doesn't give me any idea of what our starting point is.

But give that the experience level is low, see if you can get into an assignment that allows you to be in charge of a team, or get an exposure to business aspects or get a change to manage clients.

Sameer, I am glad to share with you that I have been offered admission to the 'Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University' and to the 'Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan' for the Class of 2015. Additionally, I have also been offered admission to the 'Tauber Institute' that is under the 'Ross School'

I wish to work in the field of Operations/Supply Chain post my MBA and hence both these schools are my dream schools. I'm now finding it hard to decide between the two.

Could you please share your perspective and help me with my dilemma?
