> Question-I did abide by your advise ,worked with "Atos Origin" for hardly 6 months and I quit now(so overall hardly 6 months of work exp only).I don't like "Coding" yaar .Hence my MBA aspirations have caught lime light again .I'll come straight to the point.
1.How is James Cook University-Australia&Singapore campus. If Good(by Good I mean good placements ,job opportunities after graduation) which campus should I choose Singapore or Australia?.
2.I am interested in this program called "MIT-MBA" which the university offers(MIT because my friends doing that course in the USA predict that's gonna be a source for Big bucks in the near future.lots of jobs they predict.are they true?? .Is it worth the hype or should I just stick with my MBA plan??)
> 3.If your really suggest that MIT is gonna be big bucks degree, then ILL FOLLOW YOUR ADVISE STRAIGHT AWAY and do this course which is only "MIT OR MIS" in the USA.where it is best known (I guess).
4.which among these universities do you think is safe bet for MBA in Australia?
(A) James cook University
(B)University of Ballarat
(C)Deakin University
(D)Charles Sturt University
(E)University of Newcastle Australia
(F)Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology
5.Given the option of freshers MBA program in Australia,UK,Singapore which country would you choose.your discretion should be on the parameters of quality of education, better job opportunities,Return n investment not necessarily on cost effectiveness or tuition fee.
Please reply to the above points(1-4) Sameer.
Thank you so much for YOUR TIME.
With Kind Regards
-Mehran

As desired during our mail conversations i've added my profile in the forum.
Name : Vishnu Rajan B
>
> *Currently Working at :Larsen and Toubro Ltd

GMAT Score : 730 (Taken on 01st Sept’10)

Coming to work experience, even if the number pales in comparison to the work experience thrown around in the circles these days, I believe it to be sufficient to get to know the path one wants to grow in. I have had the good fortune to be associated with a lot of programs inside my business unit apart from my experience as a project engineer.
To highlight a few:
· I was involved in an operation excellence program conducted by Accenture management consultancy from Aug’2011 to May’2012.
· Further I am involved in the Programme Management Office, a group of 5 involved in implementation of the strategies and recommendations provided by Accenture for growth of my business unit.
· My primary duties has been as a project engineer for Ash Handling Project, involved in the complete operations project cycle from project kick off to project commissioning (scheduled in Mar’13).
· Involved in preparing the financial parameters of the business unit during the MTR 2012 and currently involved in financial planning of the BU for FY2013-2014.
I in fact have a couple more designations which I have amassed, and currently hold, in the past 2 years working at L&T, but I digress.
The afore mentioned hands on involvement in the work with Operations management consultants and my further experience as a project engineer has opened to me an avenue which I wish to learn and travel. Applying for operations management in a premier school would aid me in maximizing my potential and assisting me on my path to grow as an operations engineer/ consultant either inside a conglomerate such as L&T or outside.
What is the evaluation of my profile for the schools i'm looking at ?
Regards
Vishnu Rajan B

Can you please post your review on Goodreads?
I think you misinterpreted my response. What I meant was I have no insight into your mindset, your daily schedule, your learnings, the final outcome from your gap phase and how it connects with your current status.Azeem_Mohammad wrote:I had a gut feeling that the gap would be a 'red dot'.This is my profile

How do I present this in a way that counters the negative effect of the gap ?
We do all of that in the MBA MAP that's spread over several days. That's why I'm reluctant to give you simple (and superficial) solutions.
As an alternative, I shared the blog post that has general tips on how you can show that the two years aren't something for you to be ashamed of.

First advice (and I look forward to the day when I can stop saying this). Read this post: Executive MBA vs MBA for Executives – The Big Indian Confusion
Ankita wrote:Distance MBA from SMU- final sem (first class) (joined to cover the risk factor so that i cud have atleast MBA degree in hand)
I'm not sure what risk you are covering here, as the two formats we are talking about are as different as chalk and cheese.
Companies that target IIMA PGPX, ISB, IIMB EPGP etc kind of programs won't consider a distance MBA even as a remote replacement.
But if the experience has given you some basic grounding, that might help you in a full-time MBA.
Ankita wrote:Please advise me.. which MBA should i choose.. what to do???
1. Focus on completing your current MBA and keep the good academic record of getting a First class.
2. Once the dust has settled, figure out where you want to take your career and if another MBA is really required.
3. If you are convince, start your GMAT preparation. See how much you can score on the test.
3. Take up the MBA MAP and prepare to be grilled (by me) on point 2 listed above among several other things. We'll work together on the second MBA rationale, goals, the overall storyline and the list of schools.

Itna bhi bura haal nahi hai, Mehran bhai. Excuse me for a second as I have another bite from my delayed lunch.
mehran112002 wrote:> Reply to this important question as I need help asap, else my life will go in vain as I don't trust any one else .!
Life...vain!!! Sirji, you are making me feel as if I'm in the call center of an emergency hotline. Please don't put so much responsibility on my shoulders.
mehran112002 wrote:I did abide by your advise ,worked with "Atos Origin" for hardly 6 months and I quit now
I don't think quitting in 6 months was part of the advice I gave you, bro.
mehran112002 wrote:(so overall hardly 6 months of work exp only).I don't like "Coding" yaar .
Have you figured out what you like? If you haven't, then starting an MBA journey won't help.
mehran112002 wrote:which among these universities do you think is safe bet for MBA in Australia?
The only 2 top Australian universities that regularly feature in MBA rankings are Melbourne Business School and AGSM. I'm not familiar with those you've listed.
mehran112002 wrote: 2.I am interested in this program called "MIT-MBA" which the university offers
I assume you are referring to the MIT Sloan MBA, right? It's one of the best in the world. But it's not for freshers. The calibre of folks who attend it is really high - strong GMAT, good work-experience, excellent extra curriculars. And more importantly - a solid career plan.
mehran112002 wrote: friends predict that's gonna be a source for Big bucks in the near future.lots of jobs they predict.are they true?? .Is it worth the hype or should I just stick with my MBA plan??)
I'm having doubts whether your friends are really attending the MIT Sloan program. If they are, they wouldn't make such statements.

Sirji, this 'big bucks' argument is scaring me a little.
Your approach is going exactly in the opposite direction compared to what I generally recommend.
mehran112002 wrote:5.Given the option of freshers MBA program in Australia,UK,Singapore which country would you choose.
I wouldn't choose a GMAT based MBA program that accepts freshers.
Mehran, here's the deal. I don't think you are ready for an international MBA program yet. Focus on getting some good experience, preferably in the field you like. Spend 2-3 years in that field and then think about an overseas MBA.

Quality scores over quantity when it comes to MBA admissions too.
And though I'd like to delve deeper into the role you've played in each of the assignments you've listed (and we'll do that when the time is right), you do seem to bring 2 things to the table:
1. Unusual background
2. Unusual mix of skills
The challenge would be to use 300 words (or whatever is the word-limit for that specific essay) to effectively convey the balance of points 1 and 2.
Here's why.
If you try to include too many things just to show the diverity of experience (and compensate for the lesser years), it might end up sounding shallow. admission officers will have the same kind of questions popping into their heads - 'Alright, so our friend has been part of a team that has done good work. But what has he done specifically.'
vishnurajanb wrote:Applying for operations management in a premier school would aid me in maximizing my potential and assisting me on my path to grow as an operations engineer/ consultant either inside a conglomerate such as L&T or outside.
In the essays, you need to provide a little more clarity for this part, to understand why you want to go back on the operations engineering track after an MBA.
On the consulting track, that might be a little more aligned to what you've done. But the question again is - after working with a consulting team (Accenture), but as a client, how would an MBA help you make the transition to the other side of the fence.
Both options are perfectly justifiable. But it just needs the right context to be set first and then you build the rest of the story.
For now, what you have as the starting point looks good. There's enough time for you before the next season starts. So keep up the good work and let's see what else we have in the next few months at work and outside.

Below is my brief profile >
Bachelor of Engineering from University of Pune - 2009
Have been working with an MNC in the telecommunication domain since Jan 2010 , hence 3years cummulative work experience as of today.
Extra- curriculars were good during school time - Basketball school tournaments, Taekwondo - district level , was appointed vice-prefect in school , was awarded outstanding employee of the year during 1st year of service itself at Alcatel-Lucent.
Academics are average > 10th - 78.4% , 12th - 60 % , Engineering - 60% .
Below are my queries -
Planning to give the GMAT by January end and use the score to mainly apply to good schools in Singapore (NUS / NTU / SMU / INSEAD) & India (ISB etc).
1.What can be done to make my application a competitive one ?
2.How much score in GMAT would make my application competitive enough considering my average academics?
3.As I am planning to apply to NUS & NTU by January end, what are my chances of being admitted (since admissions are done on a rolling basis) considering I manage to get a score of around 740 in the GMAT?
4.If once rejected does it make sense in reapplying to an university the next year ?
Thanks & Regards,
