Too subjective, Roshan. Drop them a note (sharing your story and concern) to check if they'd encourage you to apply.

You will find this series useful - Product Management jobs after MBA
abhistud0554 wrote:I feel getting in touch with people who are already in such positions in the US after having completed their MBA, preferably Indian students, would give me a better perspective of what their job entails and what is required of me etc.
Definitely do that. Nothing that's more credible than first hand experiences shared by folks who've been there, done that.
abhistud0554 wrote:Do you have any suggestions how I might go about getting in touch them? Also how does one normally initiate contact with current B school students/alumni ,again preferably Indians, to get to know more about their schools and the admissions process? Where do I find their contacts and any suggestions on how to initiate a contact. This would be new to me.
Three ways that you can try:
- Reach out to the bschool admissions team and request them to put you in touch with folks with that background.
- Check out forums and search for folks who are readily sharing information.
- Use Linkedin to find out where product managers are working and use common contacts to get connected.

Why you no post book review, saar?
Sri wrote:c) My only concern is that the firm I work for is not very well known, and I feel my profile would not be carrying much of a weightage as far as brand value is concerned.
Your role and achievements can make a bigger impact than just the brand. Stop worrying about what's not in your hands.

Adcoms like seeing variety in profiles. So don't discard the relevance of what you've done.
Sri wrote:g) Took CAT in 2009 and my approx scores were: Verbal-95 Percentile, Quants- 67 Percentile, Logical reasoning-65 percentile.
This has no relevance for Adcoms, but the experience and familiarity with competitive exams could help when you are taking the GMAT.

Society can play cruel jokes at times, my friend. My heartfelt feelings and sympathy are with you.
Sri wrote:Please do advice if I have any chances to aspire for the top 20 International B-schools and the time frame set to prepare for GMAT and TOFEL are sufficient enough.
Can't talk about chances of getting into business schools. But you've started with enough buffer in place to manage all the formalities - GMAT to applications.
Use the remaining months to gather some more good experience, so you have enough content to include in your MBA applications.
If our liteel team can help out in any way, drop us a note.

Think about the geography you want to work in, Siddharth, and take the call.
If you haven't worked internationally before, Notre Dame could give you that exposure as well.
Here's a story that you may like shared by a Notre Dame MBA.

I have no idea where to start from now . please guide!
Most bschools would prefer a full-time undergraduate degree. So the distance education coupled with the GMAT score could be a big stumbling block in the process, Shagun.
You could check with a few schools if they'd be willing to consider your application.
But no point in dropping the bschool selection standards so low that the degree has no relevance.

tarun_2610 wrote:I need to understand what are the prerequisites and how to prepare for 1 year full time MBA.
There's no special preparation that you need to do for 1 year MBA programs. The selection process remains the same. The primary difference is that you would be competing with folks with more years of corporate experience.
tarun_2610 wrote:What apart from Work Ex and Academics are expected from your profile.
GMAT score, managerial exposure, leaders skills, well-rounded personality...and deep pockets to pay for the degree
tarun_2610 wrote:I am having a gap of 1 year after 10th due to personal reason and a gap of 2 years after 12th std for IIT preparation.
Will this gap have impact on my selection process and how to deal with this?
Use the optional essay to explain the reason. But it's unusual for international applicants from other countries to take a break.

Hi Sameer,
I am writing this mail on high spirits to get an admit from top business school for fall 2015.
Below is mine complete profile:
Bachelor of Technology-Computer Science Engineering (74%)
Jaypee University of Engineering & Technology
2 Years Experience
Title - Systems Engineer Role: Analyst (Nov-2011 - Present)
Infosys Ltd.,Mangalore/Hyderbad
Project - Apple Production Support
Key Responsibilities:
Client Interaction and trouble shooting the real time issue of software used by 5,700+ users.
Communication and Coordination with teams and clients spread across globe regarding the real time challenges faced.
Support smooth operation of Apple application dealing with financial transaction of the company.

Extra Curriculars:
Headed the team of 70 volunteers of CSR activity Infy Model School for under privileged kids in Hyderabad for 6 Months.
Head Coordinator(Training & Placement Cell) in College for 4 months.
Coordinator(Computer Society of India) in College for 6 months.
Event Coordinator(Tech Fest) in College for 2 months.
I am hopeful of getting GMAT score of atleast of 750 as I have succeeded in the mocks of Manhattan GMAT.
Taking up the exam on June - 2014.
Also by the time I would apply I will have 3.5 Yrs of experience.
I am also thinking either to take up CABM certification or Pre- MBA series of UCB Extension school to boost my business knowledge and showcase intellectual capacity and interest in Business related theory to adcoms.
Certainly I will take up one of these certification after GMAT.
Sir could you please answer few of my queries :
1) What should I do from now on to boost my profile and project myself as a unique candidate in IIM category.
2) My Bschool fees would completely depend on loans from banks, hence what all Bschools you would suggest to apply ?
In US will the Bschool with no cosigner loans be feasible for my profile like Fuqua/Darden/Stern/Johnson/Kenan Flagler ?
Awaiting your reply !!
Please help me out in my dilemma to secure an admit into a Top MBA program.
Regards,
Ishu

Same thing. Indians call it MBA college, Americans (and pretty much the rest of the countries) call it Business School or B-school.

High spirits on Christmas. Hope you weren't driving as that would be against traffic rule!
Ishu16 wrote:2 Years Experience..Systems Engineer...Infosys Ltd.,Mangalore/Hyderbad
Infy losing quite a few of its employees to bschools. Mr Murthy needs to have a chat with the HR team to make the corporate setting more attractive.
Ishu16 wrote:Taking up the exam on June - 2014.
Why are you pushing it by 7 months? Leaves very little time for a re-take if you don't get the expected score in the first attempt.
Apart from the laws of maths and grammar, also keep Murphy's Laws in mind.
Ishu16 wrote:Certainly I will take up one of these certification after GMAT.
You might be pushing too many things at the last moment. Hope you aren't juggling more (crystal) balls than you can handle.

Try to shoulder responsibilities at work that go beyond just production support role. If that is difficult and your formal role doesn't give you the opportunity, seek out such options outside work.

Read these posts on MBA scholarships and when the time is right, take up the MBA MAP.

Here's a list of bschools that offer --> Non cosigner students loans for international MBA[/quote]
