Thanks for the eval.
Profile is as follows:
Age: 24
Work ex: will be ~2.3 at time of joining. I currently work as a consultant at an MBB in India.
GMAT: 770 (50, 44, 5.5, 8)
GPA: ~9
Undergrad: Top 5 IIT
Extra currics are solid.
I wanted to know if it made sense for me to apply right away, instead of waiting till I have 4 years of work ex. I'm quite sure I just want to rejoin my firm when I'm done, and I don't see the point in waiting for another 2 years.
Target is M7, although H/S are a stretch at present.

Qualification and academics
B.Sc Biotechnology ( 73%)
MBA-HR(Honors- 82.4%)
GMAT score
I gave my first GMAT last month and didn't score well, so preparing again and planning to give another GMAT in January and targeting for 3rd round.
Work Experience
I have in total 3 years of work experience in HR. Initially, in my first year I worked with two small organizations and next two years of experience is with Unilever in India, where I was leading employee engagement for the whole manufacturing site, and that was one of their biggest manufacturing sites in India.
While leading that I introduced and initiated many new initiatives such as free career counseling for employees children. These initiatives were huge success and got the appreciation from management as well as workers. I was also handling the major responsibilities such as training, appraisals, welfare etc. for one manufacturing plant which consisted of 500 workers.
I got excellent recognition from my superiors, production manager, HR manager and factory manager for my performance. I even got additional responsibilities for other plant (which doesn't usually happens) and other activities to lead because of my performance. Even while applying for any business school I am sure that I am going to get strong recommendations from my superiors.
Extracurricular activities
1) Got 'Best badge holder' prize in my school as I was head girl in my high school. Got 'All rounder student award' in my high school.
2) Represented my senior secondary school in hockey at regional level and won bronze medal.
3) Represented my college in declamation competition at state level, got first position and got selected for national level.
4) Participated in various declamation and debate competitions in my graduation and post graduation and always secured 1st and 2nd position and also got awarded as 'Best speaker in college' consistently for 3 years.
5) Also a team member of cultural team in my college.
6) I have participated in many activities in my school and college and always secured positions from 1st to 3rd.
7) I also organized and did many CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities during my employment tenure with Unilever.
I am not sure how much these above mentioned activities are strong and effective for my application. Though I have other certificates also for the various activities which I did during my school and college and certificates for the few training I have done, but I just mentioned here few of them to give an idea what small credentials I have.
Career Goals
I want to shift my career from HR to strategic management or consultancy. My reason for doing MBA again is that when I first time did my MBA, I was naive as I didn't have much experience. I chose MBA though, but I missed the opportunity to apply for good b schools and did MBA from a mid level college. I realized the importance and difference of a good business school once I started working with Unilever. But apart from that I realized with time that my area of interest is not that much in traditional HR as much I have in strategic management. The primary difference in strategic management from traditional HR is that it helps to determine how to best fit the various resources and other organization initiatives within the overall strategic trajectory of the organization and this really fascinates me. I basically want to change my career direction, but I don't find myself that much equipped for the same. I think this second time MBA from an international college will help me in doing the same as well as it will give me a broader and global perspective for the same.
Other Information
I am currently in USA on dependent visa and I took 2 and half year break due to personal circumstances and I had visa reasons for not applying in the first two rounds and as I don't want to wait for one more year and everything is stable on my visa part now as well, so I am thinking of applying in 3rd round. In these two years I did some online courses, took some online trainings and also achieved some accomplishments on the personal front.
My target college are Yale, Darden and NYU Stern.
I need your help in evaluation of my profile and I also want to know is it risky as per my profile to apply in 3rd round? What are my chances at the target schools?
I know I wouldn't be able to get a consideration for scholarships, but I just can't waste my one more year. I know that I have to fine tune my story a little more, but I just wrote everything to give a brief about my profile, though I know it's little long.
Thanks in advance.

I am not really sure if I made the right move and really confused on this aspect. Let me know your views on this.
Sarthak,
You've built a pretty interesting set of achievements out there. It is the ideal time to consolidate everything so that things come together for you. We do not really provide piecemeal advice as several factors work together. For folks in your position, we have created the Profile Builder which is what you should check out.

Thanks in advance.
Sarva,
The TFI experience has an excellent continuity both with your CSR work as well as Mukti. Although another year may help, but I would still recommend giving ISB a shot this year.

A few points and questions for you Akhila:
- It is not clear when you plan to apply? If it is this year, think again and read here why.
- You have also not mentioned the kind of schools you are targeting. The GMAT score can be a big hurdle at a high level. Reasons for that here.
- The fact that you are in a quasi post-MBA career will help. But you need to have a few more years and a MUCH better GMAT to get full mileage from your profile. On the entrepreneurship bit - make sure you are able to defend and explain that career choice well.

Rarara123,
Do you have a hire-back deal with your firm? Without that, with less than 2 years of experience when you join, it can be pretty tough despite the splendid credentials you have here. A mid-way strategy would be to apply selectively now and go full-force next year if things don't turn out well.

A few thoughts here Prana:
- Your profile in the HR space and the accomplishments are certainly interesting and will get you that initial attention. The post-MBA plan though tough, can still be argued out. The issue will be of GMAT - you will have to really excel at that one since consulting firms also look at that when they recruit after MBA.
- The career gap will have to well explained and defended. That will be the single biggest issue in your application and could make the going REALLY tough - more so at the super aggressive target list you have.
- R3 has very limited seats; at least its good that you won't have the visa issues. My strong advice, if it is imperative you apply this year, would be to hedge your risks and definitely aim much lower to improve chances.

My Academics:
X – 81%
XII – 93.5%
B.tech – 60.3%
Experience:
Currently I have 4 years of Experience of which I have worked in different technologies. Initial 2 years were mostly into C# coding and development activities, then improved my domain specific knowledge and supported our full time Business Analysts as a Techno business analyst. And the last 1 year I was mostly in to Functional testing and setting up framework in Automation Test. No international experience.
MBA is always my passion I want to start a company though the actual business I haven’t decided now. I want to deal with practical problems like taking up challenging roles like in marketing or consulting rather than coding hundreds of pages. But after my UG because of low percentage and no experience I know I won’t make in to top schools like IIMs, FMS,XLRI etc
At Present:
- I got my visa approved with an average university in US for my masters in computer information systems .
- I have zeal to earn an MBA from IIMs for 1 year full time courses offered in IIMs/ISB.
- Since the average experience they accept is 6 to 7 years, I still have 2 to 3 years to improve my profile and give the best shot at Gmat, My expected score would be around 700.
To Increase the chances of admission:
- Should I take MS in US and work for couple of years their will that make impact studing in US and gaining experience there, then the total experience will be 6+ with International Job and Study.
- Should I build my profile in the same job what I am doing now and in the mean while I may travel abroad for short duration expecting Business visa/H1B from my organization.
Post MBA Goals:
- Want to work in IT consulting firms for few years and start a service/product based companyin IT.
