Post by ghuna » June 11th, 2013, 10:06 pm
I'm planning to do MBA in '15 or '16. As of now, I do not have any target MBA schools in mind. And have not yet given GMAT. Planning to give it by the end of this year.
PFB the required data:
(I)Academics:
(1) BE (EEE) - 75.79 % ( Private Engg College Under Anna University in Chennai - Tamil Nadu)
(2) 12th - 90.50 % ( State Board – Tamil Nadu )
(3) 10th - 87.36 % ( Matriculation Board – Tamil Nadu )
Work Experience :
• 2 years and 10 months of work experience in IT industry as a Developer for some time and Test Engineer for some time. Both of them were in the banking ( Financial Services Ad Insurance ) Sector. American Express and Bank Of America were the clients.
• Sometime later, I developed the interest to do MBA. And I got the opportunity to work for a start up. In the IT industry, I did not get the chance to experience the business aspect of it. So, I joined the start up, since it would give me a real world exposure of what doing business actually means.
• The start up is in no way related to the IT industry. It deals with the rubber wood treatment for industrial and real estate uses. It is a very small firm. Only 4 of us working, including the owner. Doesn’t have an office as such, and the wood treatment is done in a shed. Working in the start up now.
Community Service:
• Volunteer in the NGO Bhumi.
• Have applied for Teach For India, 2 years internship programme. Will be going there, if get the wonderful opportunity.
Career Goals:
• Want to do MBA in Management Consulting. Work for a start up or a company that deals mainly with Management Consulting. Gain experience ( as well as pay back my MBA loan ) and then start a firm on my own, when am confident.
Queries:
(1) Should I have a prior experience ( or Internship ) in Consulting before doing MBA in Consulting ?
(2) Which are the MBA schools known for their MBA Consulting programmes ?
(3) Based on the kind of profile that I have, what score (approx) should I get in Gmat in order to make it to a decent MBA school ?
(4) Will my start up experience be considered as a positive point (or) will it be considered negative as it is a very small start up , with no such big revenues ( balance sheets ). Is it advisable to continue in the start up ? ( I know it’s an absurd question to ask. Anyways, I have put up everything, that came to my mind) . Sorry, if am asking too many questions
(5) Would like to have my profile evaluated, on the whole.
Pardon me, if there are grammatical errors.

This is Sathya. I need your help in evaluating my profile.
I am from India. I took GMAT last month and scored a 730
Score - 730 (Q - 49 V - 41)
AWA - 4
IR - 5
I know that the AWA and the IR score are slightly on the lower side. But still I just want to go ahead and apply for colleges with this score. I am looking for Fall 2014 entry.
Profile:
10th grade - 91%
12th grade - 96%
UG CGPA - 8.5 (in scale of 4 - 3.5)
WE:
Sony India (1 years and 10 months till date)
Designation : Softare Engineer
Will complete 3 years by the time I get into a b-school.
Career goals:
I like the field of consumer electronics and I personally feel that I got into the right company(Sony). But with a wrong designation!!
I would like to be in a management position wherein I would able to shape up a product rather than sitting down writing a piece of code for someone else's idea.
So I am targeting at a major in Technology management. I am seeing myself in the same field after graduating from a B-school but I would want to work on the management side of things.
Extra-curriculars:
1) Have been playing football and represented college.
2) Have been an active member of Youth Red Cross during my college days.
3) Have organized cultural festivals in college.
I have done some research of my own and found that the following b-schools are good for engineers from technical background:
CMU Tepper
Emory Goizueta
Texas Mccombs
Gerogetwon Mcdonough
ISB
NUS
Nanyang
How good are my chances of getting into the above B-scools?
How good are my chances of getting a scholarship in above schools?
Also, can you let me know some safety options for my profile?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

Age 28 years old male..
X-84%, XII-82% , B.com 62% from RA Podar college of commerce & economics mumbai. 2005
Msc finance and investment from University or Edinburgh,2008.
Total work ex 6 years.. 2 years post my undergrad and 4 years after post grad..
I have been working in the sales department of reliance capital.. I worked as a relationship officer from 2005 to 2007.. Proceeded to do my masters.. Post which I have been involved with the same company..in the last 4 years I have handled the institutional sales for 2 locations simultaneously ...I have handled clients such as provident funds, banks and corporate treasuries .. Now i work with private bankers whose clients are ultra hnis.. I have handled all channels(retail, institutional and banking)
i have promoted twice in 4 years and been transferred to bigger locations which usually take longer...won sales achievement awards..even though it is a very intensive sales role, I have a deeper understanding of debt, equity markets and structured products..
I always felt I could push myself for a bigger role in a bigger industry ..eventhough mutual fund even though it is growing in india..it is small compared to a pure play banking industry..I'm very much interested in sales but would also like to use my finance masters to a greater advantage..I thought about cfa but decided otherwise as that would take my line of work to portfolio management and you don't really need an mba in portfolio management.. If you frankly ask me what after mba.. I would be lying if I said X is the field I would like to be.. I would like to be in a role where I could play a better role in strategy and sales
Schools I was thinking about is goizueta, ucla Andersen, nyu
I prefer a two year course as I feel a one year cours would be best for someone who already know what they want..I would like to explore my options and also fine tune my leadership skills..
Extra curricular activities.. It's jus avg
I played table tennis for my school at the national level..played basket ball at school, college and at Edinburgh at the Local league.. I used to be a member of BNHS and took part in CUPA activities.. But this was way before so I don't really think this could count as extra curricular s..
Would be grateful if you could evaluate my profile at your convenience..thanks in advance

This is Siddharth Chaudhary. I would request you to evaluate my profile and also suggest some insights on which schools to apply for:
Acads: I have completed a B. E in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Sardar Patel Institute of Technology. Thereafter I have done a MMS in Finance from Mumbai University (SIMSREE). I have also cleared 2 levels of the CFA examination.
GMAT score and GPA: I have a GMAT of 740 and I have sound acads. Discussed with a few ppl and got to know it we easily above 3.6.
Extracurriculars: As I was always mostly preoccupied with studies, did not find time for much of extracurriculars. Nevertheless, I actively participated in college events and festivals. Nothing much in sports.
Work Experience: I have completed 2 years and 2 months of work ex as Assistant Manager-Project Finance in an infrastructure sector private company. My core responsibilities include Financial Modelling,Infrastructure Project Appraisal, Arranging debt for the lenders etc.
I want to pursue an MBA from a reputed B school primarily for growth prospects. If you can weigh options and let me know which B schools could I consider, it shall be greatly helpful. I am open to good schools in US but the substantial cost is a consideration (considering the top 15 schools and that they dont issue a scholarship). I shall be willing to consider schools in Singapore as well. I would not be wanting to try schools in UK for the reason that there dont exist many good opportunities aftermath the MBA degree (please correct me if I am wrong). And lastly, I would want to consider ISB as well.
Please suggest which schools should I apply to. I would also request you to weigh my chances of getting in top schools in US,Singapore or ISB.

Campus, as the program is much cheaper as compared to Singapore and France.
My query is: Whether is it worth going for Abu Dhabi campus. Is it as good
in terms of overall student environment. Most importantly, is Abu Dhabi
considered to be as good as Singapore by prospective employers after the completion of MBA.
