Thanks for the quick reply!
As of now the basic requirement to become a fund manager is to have an MBA from a reputed college or a post graduated specialised in finance. My near term goal is to become a fund manager and long term goal is become a CIO. Hence, an MBA will help me to achieve these goals.
I am open to work in any of the financial capitals of the world (Ontario, NY, London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai, etc.) and i am targetting bschools at these locations or near by (Eg. IIM A/B/C, CEIBS, HEC Paris, etc).
My current experience as a dealer in a PSU bank set up has helped me to be very analytical, critical and careful when it comes to stock picking or an investment proposal. I believe my learnings here will be helpful in any country as over-the-board risk taking has hit many countries' banks and other investment companies very badly in the past.
I hope to hear from you very soon!

GMAT 610(Q48 V27) [Actual] Test Date: 20 Oct 2015
Interested in: Full-time 1 year MBA
My main priority is getting quality education with high ROI, which would help me getting job in india after the course, so that I will be able to continue my little experiments in my start-ups. Also Focusing on Entrepreneurship building courses.
1. Which schools will be good for me?
2. should I retake GMAT for score improvement?
The low GMAT score + low experience will be a double whammy for the good schools. So, I'd definitely encourage you to re-take the GMAT.
You've given a preference for 1 year programs. These generally get applicants with higher experience than you currently have.
I'd suggest looking at 2 years programs where the average experience will still be higher in the class, but not by a big margin.

Is the online MBA same as part time MBA?
What is the value of an online / part time MBA? Does it hold the same worth as full time?
Can i put 'MBA from xx university' on my CV after completing an online / part time MBA or does it need to clearly say 'online MBA .... '?
Which are the top online (globally)/ part time (Mumbai) MBA to consider?
Is it truly possible to balance work and study? How intense can it get?
Online MBA is the not the same as part-time MBA. Most Executive MBA programs are part-time in nature, but you are expected to attend (physical) classes.
Their value is lower than full-time programs.
You will need to be transparent about the program you attend and whether it's part-time/online/full-time. Or it can backfire later, if the employer thinks you held back the detail intentionally. Anyway, HR will find out while evaluating the documents.
Here's the list of the top online MBA programs in the world.
It is possible to balance work and study if you have good time management skills.

Good enough reason to justify the 'Why MBA' question.vijaysabnani wrote:As of now the basic requirement to become a fund manager is to have an MBA from a reputed college or a post graduated specialised in finance.
This part will need a little more insight in your essays. A lot of traders want to transition into fund management roles.vijaysabnani wrote:My near term goal is to become a fund manager and long term goal is become a CIO. Hence, an MBA will help me to achieve these goals.
Think about these questions:
- What makes your experience, combined with an MBA different from the others?
- What will make you more successful after the MBA?
You are throwing the net too wide. Each of these locations has it's own regulatory, economic, legal complexities that'll impact your effectiveness as a fund manager.vijaysabnani wrote:I am open to work in any of the financial capitals of the world (Ontario, NY, London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai, etc.) and i am targetting bschools at these locations or near by (Eg. Submitting too many applications with the same story can be counter-productive. Customise it for each region.

Stating it is good, Proving it with facts is better.
Explain how the PSU bank policies aren't as aggressive as private banks to show profits. And how that allows you to balance both.
See how you can use the public sector exposure to your advantage.

GMAT 760 (Q51 V42) [Actual] Test date: Jan 2016
- I have been working as a consultant developer with US based Consulting/Services firm since last 2.5 years.
- Leading an initiative to dive into data science and gain some machine learning exposure within my organisation.
I am hoping to get into a VC firm investing in early stage startups.
Will a profile switch to product management help improve my profile?
What further can i do to improve my profile? (I have a few months before the application process starts)
Product management would be a good role to get into but there are some caveats.
Generally, for any product of moderate complexity, it requires several years to experience the entire end-to-end product development life cycle.
With that context, some questions for you:
- Are you willing to spend a few years learning the ropes of not just the technical aspects but the other entrepreneurial responsibilities that go into building a product?
- How does that prepare you for a VC role, rather than a more logical transition into, say, a bigger product manager role in a more reputed organisation (like Google, Apple etc)?
- Why are you aiming for an MBA now, with experience that's lesser than the average applicants? Do you think you've learnt all there is to learn in the current role/industry?

The profile arc looks good. The GMAT will be an obvious hurdle. The other thing to bear in mind would be to choose the right schools given your age/experience. Make sure you've done fair bit of thinking on where does the MBA take you. With that, you should be set. Feel free to reach out of course.
Cheers,

I am 33 years old and working in IT for past 6-7 years.Currently working as a teamlead. I am from Odisha,India
I want to do a MBA but don't have the required marks.
10th-81
12th-56
btech-64
I know these marks are very bad. Please guide me.
Would going for the 1 year MBA in India be a better option? or the marks will always be a hindrance. Please guide me so that I will not take any wrong decision

Thanks for your reply. Yes i think its pretty evident why its raining oil and gas profiles this season.
Well i plan to apply after 1 or 2 years only. At the moment i am deciding what to write GMAT or GRE. Also can you please throw some light on how masters in management and a MBA will lead me to different paths? Yes i think non work related i have things to talk about but my work is mostly technical. Though it involves communication with vendors but not client end. Also i have a gap of two years in my engineering because i migrated from one college to another because of some health related issues. How is that gonna affect my profile? But i have a decent CGPA of 8.2.
The main question right now for me shall i write GMAT or GRE? And that would depend on what i would want to go for? thats why i want to know if i have a strong profile to get into the top colleges for MBA or MIM? I ultimately want to get into energy consultancy/ business development/ strategy. So what would be the best way to go about it.
The positive points which i believe i have is extra curricular activities, international exposure with a good brand in oil and gas industry, decent CGPA.
I hope to hear from you soon!

10th and 12th marks don't matter now. The graduation marks do, but they are also too old. GMAT will be on top of the list.Rks123 wrote:I am 33 years old and working in IT for past 6-7 years.Currently working as a teamlead. I want to do a MBA but don't have the required marks.

There aren't many 1-year options in India to choose from. PGPX should be a good fit.Rks123 wrote:Would going for the 1 year MBA in India be a better option? or the marks will always be a hindrance. Please guide me so that I will not take any wrong decision

I'd vote for GMAT, since you are targetting management oriented courses.achal wrote:At the moment i am deciding what to write GMAT or GRE.
The big difference is the type of students the programs attract. MBA is better suited for professionals with 4-5 years experience and prepares them for mid/senior management roles. MiM is for freshers and folks with lesser experience.achal wrote:Also can you please throw some light on how masters in management and a MBA will lead me to different paths?
Read this post for more details: MiM vs MBA: Which is better for you.
You'll need a place to justify it. The optional essay is a good place to do so. And you'd need a stellar GMAT to show Adcoms that the grey matter up there hasn't lost its touch.achal wrote:i have a gap of two years in my engineering because i migrated from one college to another because of some health related issues. Drop the MiM plans and go for the (mainstream) MBA that has some linkages with the energy industry.
