GMAT score 690 - V38 Q47 AWA - 4.5

I have three years of work experience in various product roles in U.S.
In my current role as a Associate Product Manager in NYC, I work with a team of 15 people and I am responsible for product innovation - generating new product ideas, analyzing their revenue impact, prioritizing them for development and work with business analysts and developers to launch them. Monitor product performance and ROI post launch, etc.
- Major achievements at work and/or outside
International Student Ambassador - Leadership /Mentor role for incoming students.
Vice Chancellors Award for All Round Excellence - Award at Master's Program Graduation.
PayPal Hackathon winner for Effective Social Entrepreneurship project.
Volunteer at Accumen
- Career goals
I am currently working on the project which was a winner at a Hackathon. I eventually want to pursue social entrepreneurship - a field which definitely has a lot of potential to change lives but is missing the right people with the right initiatives.
As an out of country applicant, I can apply to IIMs with my GMAT score but I'm not sure if a 690 is enough.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
K.

ISC - 75%
Engg- 76% (w/ fair bit of extracurriculars)
GMAT - 650 (47,34) -- going to rewrite, hoping for 700+
Extracurriculars include but not restricted to - organization committee of college fest, participation in fests, prizes for quiz, debate, poetry writing etc. Was a part of the crew of the college theatre group, which has staged many plays. I also belonged to a leading Toastmasters club and edited the magazine for a couple of terms.
Briefly, my work ex (7 yrs Unilever R&D) is as follows (keeping it as free of technical detail as possible),
Water Research (~3.5 years)
I have spent many months at a 3P factory that made water purification sachets for us on a pilot scale. I was tasked with ensuring smooth operation of factory trials. Here I was exposed to and was able to deal with to some extent various processing and logistical issues.
I worked on an emerging technology for water purification viz. Ultrafiltaration membranes. Work involved looking at methods of characterization to evaluate UF membranes, engagement with external membrane supplier and technology evaluation thereof in terms of relevant parameters. Performance improvement studies. I hold a patent for a purification device based on the same. I have also done some little work on the manufacture of hollow fiber UF membranes.
Skin care (~3.5 years)
A while back I joined the Photoprotection team in the Personal Care vertical. Here I started off working on processing of a recently invented skin cream, obtaining skills such as: lab scale processing of formulations, characterization of formulations by various methods - leading to recommendations on how to improve processing. I have also worked on new product development where a mandate is received and a product is designed based on that mandate, an example would be the development of a hair care formulation addressing a particular consumer need.
At the moment I am looking for a career change and move into a business oriented role. My focus would be on Marketing of consumer products or an equivalent consultancy role.
Would greatly appreciate a profile evaluation and any advice.

Answer to following questions that can would put some more light :
Why MBA? Why now?
I have a interest in working on business end of the Industry. Coding and programming is not something I enjoy.
My career with engineering is hitting a ceiling. An advance degree is much required.
I assume MBA would give me 360 degree aspect of the industry. This would enable me to decide how and where should my career go.
So I feel its now or never.
I sense an urgent need of skill update and MBA looks like something of my interest.
What MBA?
I don't want to change the industry profile. I would like to stay with technology even after my MBA. Looking for a job like that of CTO (may be not immediately but down the line) who is in touch with the technology and also takes care of business aspect of it.
How can I succeed in your life w/o an MBA?
I cannot see any change in my job and role without an advanced degree.
Without an MBA, I have to be reliant on my fate and on my Seniors to get me an opportunity for a role that I desire and enjoy.
I would have to get a job opportunity in one of the developed countries like US to have a good living and future.
I would have to do certifications like PMI which can help me climb the the corporate hierarchy but it would again have a limit to which i can go.
This would be definitely slow and considering I am in the mid of my career, I need to work of things pretty swiftly.
How will an MBA accelerate/make it possible?
Again as I said MBA would give me 360 degree aspect of the industry.
MBA would give me credibility and brand equity as a business leader and analyst.
MBA from good school will give me credibility as a manager and as an executive.
Short term and long term career goals.
Short term :
To switch to business side of industry.
To get into any of the job role like analyst, strategist or a business consultant.
Not to stay too much dependent on specific technology in this fast paced world of technology.
Long term :
To assume a position as Business Leader/Executive. Someone like a CTO.
Lead/Head a business operation
Eventually be an entrepreneur of a self-sustaining business.
Short term and long term personal goal.
Short term :
Get a structured attitude towards life.
Be a person with a better decision capability.
Long term :
Have an illustrious and luxurious life.
To be respected personality of the society.
Some reasons (that linger in my mind) for not doing MBA are :
1) No major hobby and extra curricular. Though i can write some story about my penchant for watching movies of multiple languages. (Yes I watch Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Hindi and English Movies).
2) Family man with a working wife, kid and dependent parents. Thus the cost of and ROI from MBA would play a major role.
3) Currently in a comfortable job, making good money.
4) A big number in years of exp field, which surpasses average exp of the class profile of every Bschool.
5) I don't have the names like IIT, NIT etc linked to my profile.
Confusions in my mind :
1) Even if it has been my ''wannabe' passion for long time, would MBA be a good decision at this point of time?
2) What schools can do justice to my Profile? I know you can't recommend schools on the forum and I am not asking you to. I would just like to know from your experience where do you see guys with my background go fishing their MBA.
3) People are telling me that for me it should be either Ivy leagues or none. Is it?
Some more Info :
I am looking majorly for US or an Indian MBA. I have started with with one of the leading institute for my GMAT classes. Soon would take an early December date. Not sure if this is any indicator but I achieved a 660 GMAT Prep Test 1 a month back.

Please evaluate my profile
Class 10: 85%
class 12: 55%
B.E degree: 61%
year of graduation 2005
Extra curricular activities: General secretary of cultural events in the college under which i, along with my team of 5 students were responsible for budgeting and managing all cultural activities in college . Runners up in Mad adds in Pune Verve Fest. Runners up in Goonj( street play which i wrote and directed) in Pune Verve Fest. Winner of Mad adds in college, winner in drama competition( written and directed by me) in college,Runners up in college football tournament
GMAT:680 (taken in year 2009 which is of course not valid anymore)
After completing my engineering from pune, i shifted to my home town surat ( the only reason was to be close to my family) and tried staring a dot com company which will print books for kids but could not make it take off and so dejected, took a job in a textile firm, after an year i started my own embroidery textile unit and did pretty well until the lightning struck the market in 2008 and it affected our business and we had to shut doors. Within months i started manufacturing designs for my own brand and opened a textile trading company which is still running successfully and we distribute our products in major wholesale markets in north india.
So after all this year, i still have that desire to start a dot com company and as i have researched more about it, it has become more clear that MBA from a Ivey league school can open the doors which are not open as if now and can give me the right connections and will enable me to find my future cofounders.
So how b schools will evaluate my work experience as i have worked in one of the most unorganized sectors and which MBA school is best suitable for an entrepreneur career? also I want to stay in india so is it a wise decision to only look for indian B schools?. Or european and american b schools are the ones i should not leave out of consideration
Thankyou for reading,
Javed.

I'll be taking the GMAT in the coming months and I'd like to work with you in my application process. I'm a 32 year old married Indian male. I want to go for an MBA program this 2016 or latest by 2017.
- At this stage I am seeing my career prospects getting narrowed down into domestic sales.
- I'm bumping into a familiar network of clients, co-workers and acquaintances and my sales role is becoming less challenging and more monotonous.
- Over the years I've discovered that my calling is to be in sales functions catering to a global clientele where my work will take me to new countries, experience new cultures, food and people.
Educational qualifications:
- B.Tech - University of Calicut - Kerala: 58%
- XII - Andhra Pradesh State Board: 59%
- X - CBSE: 61%,
Had taken the GMAT 7 years back as part of a herd, didn't know why I should be doing an MBA, scored 510.
Work Experience: 8 years
Worked with a BPO (~1 year), in sales roles in two mid sized software product companies (3+3 Yrs) and in a larger one (2 Years) and now going to be part of the India sales team in one of India's top three software companies.
Major Achievements:
- Led many large deals ranging to about $3 Million
- Handled top Indian banks as key accounts and Apex bodies with revenues of over $800k per year.
- Added new logos, large banks, premier business news media companies. Entered two new territories.
- Won highly competitive Million dollar System Integration deals which were driven by Ministry of Finance - Govt of India & Reserve Bank of India.
- Implemented new processes for tracking revenues, up-sell opportunities and proposal management.
- Managed consultants and partner companies to drive sales.
- Founded and led Entrepreneurship Club in college as its secretary with about 25 members, grew the club to over 60 in the second year of operations. Held Talks/ Sessions by local entrepreneurs and tied up with Entrepreneurship Club of NIT Calicut.
- Many Awards in literary and on-stage competitions such as dramas, debates, extempore and essay writing competitions in college and school.
Post MBA goals:
- Work in leadership roles in technology sales with start ups or software companies trying to enter new markets.
- Work with consulting companies with focus on banking & finance.
- The larger plan is to eventually start up a technology company. Already working with a family member to grow an advertising and branding company.
Specific query:
- Which 1 or 2 year programs in US should I target considering my acads and my objective of moving a couple of levels higher in my career post MBA. I am working on GMAT and plan to take it in Oct end/ early November 2015, targeting 700-750.
- Which programs to pursue outside US. Last option would be schools in India.
- How much will age be a deciding factor for Admission, Scholarships, Lending Banks and post MBA recruiters? Though I think I can pass off as a guy in late 20s.
Thank you,
NV
