My question is a two part one but before i jump into it i would however like to give you an inkling of my educational background. i completed my undergraduate studies as of april 2014 with an aggregate of 78% , i have a bachelors degree in commerce and also a post graduate degree in investment management. as for work experience i happen to be working this year as a junior accountant (since i plan on applying in december it makes my work experience about 8 months). so my question is : should i pursue a masters in international business or an MIM degree? what are the career prospects of a MIB degree? also if you could be so kind to suggest a few colleges where i could apply for this degree id be grateful
thank you
super confused

I would like to contact you to resolve the dilemma that I am currently facing.I would like to go for master degree in statistics from University of Hong Kong but confused whether to go for it or not.
I contacted their department to see if I am eligible to apply for this course to which they positively replied.
Some of the questions that I have in my mind is
1.Is it worth to do it now since I have 6 years of experience.
2.How is University of Hong Kong and this course?
3.How good is placement after course?
4.Is there any other university to which I can apply?
I always wanted to do Msc in Statistics since I feel something is lacking in me which this course will help.
My Details:
I have done BBA (Banking and Insurance) with a CPI of 71.89%.
I am currently working in Actuarial department of MNC ,having 6 years of experience in underwriting and Actuarial.

I'm afraid these queries would be too generic to address on a forum. I'd suggest doing some independent research as well as talking to a few friends who've gone through the journey.agshetty wrote:should i pursue a masters in international business or an MIM degree? what are the career prospects of a MIB degree? also if you could be so kind to suggest a few colleges where i could apply for this degree id be grateful
Don't jump in when you aren't clear about what you want from it.

Hong Kong does have an active finance industry. However there could be culture and language issues if you are trying to get into a client facing role.
We worked with a candidate, with finance qualifications, who spent a couple of years in HK (after marriage), but returned to India because she couldn't get a job. She then applied to Indian MBA programs.
If it's more a matter of gaining the right skills, why not do it in India itself?TDSB wrote:I always wanted to do Msc in Statistics since I feel something is lacking in me which this course will help.

I checked in India but no university accepts UG degree in BBA for MSc in Statistics. Also I am concerned about job prospects after the course. Do you have other universities to which I can apply?

I'm afraid that's not an area of expertise for us. Maybe you could check on other forums (like Pagalguy) where there are more discussions around Indian options.TDSB wrote:I checked in India but no university accepts UG degree in BBA for MSc in Statistics. Thanks but on one point I would like your opinion -do you think it's good idea to get Msc degree after years of experience?MBACrystalBall wrote:I'm afraid that's not an area of expertise for us. If you are clear and confident (sounds like a fairness cream ad!) about your career goals, then sure it does.TDSB wrote:Thanks but on one point I would like your opinion -do you think it's good idea to get Msc degree after years of experience?
Most folks with experience tend to go for managerial positions, so an MBA makes better sense for them.

This is Bhardwaj Varma. I have heard great reviews about MBA Crystal Ball and would like to see how we can work together to achieve my goals.
Firstly would like to state my profile below.
MBA-Finance from Christ University Bangalore with 65%
BSc-Statistics & Computers from Andhra University with 65%
12th grade -78%
10th grade - 85%
Total full time work experience : 4 years so far
HSBC Cards ( Pre MBA): 18 months
Team Leader at JP Morgan Chase (Post MBA): 2.5 years( Leadership role) in the Fund Accounting domain.
Internships :
2 months at HSBC Wealth Management(Comparative Analysis of mutual funds offered between several banks)
Decent Extra curricular activities. No international level papers presented.
My interest completely is in the field of finance and the would like to pursue masters in finance. I would like to work at an Investment Bank in the US.
I am quite concerned with the cost of education and so desperately need funding for my further studies.
Questions:
1. How is my profile looking ? I am giving my GRE in oct as most of the schools are accepting GRE for masters.
Expected GRE : 320
Expected TOEFL : 100
Do i have any good chances for admission in a top b school with scholarship? Does my scores of 65% in MBA and BSc be the spoilsport?
2.How are the job prospects for the MS finance course as such ?
3.Is my decision of doing MS in finance correct instead of second MBA over there ?
Thanks in advance !

This could be a major disconnect, Bhardwaj. Here's why.
1. Investment banking jobs are very tough to get.
2. Pedigree of the university plays a big role in getting a chance to interview with the good I-banks.
3. And for most of these universities, it's highly unlikely that you'll get a significant (if any, at all) funding.
Vicious circle!

I know folks who've done that. But they weren't very happy during the downturn when finance was one of the worst hit industries, and having a finance focused specialisation meant that they were stuck. MBA is broader in scope.
