I'm a senior technical writer working with an MNC and I've been working for 8 years now in the IT software sector.
I have a master's in English Literature (distance education. My Bachelors was in Literature as well from one of the best colleges in East India).
I'm currently pursuing my PMP certification in the hopes of moving out of a dead-end career, as there are chances of getting into PM in my company with the help of this certification and some politicking.
However I feel like I'm missing out on something by not doing an MBA. All I have are qualifications in arts which is basically of no use in my industry.
I really need advice on how to move on to the next level and get into management and get a better pay package. I currently earn 9 lakhs pa.
Would an MBA help? I'm not really sure.
Could you help me resolve a career crisis that struck a little too late?
Thanks,
Celebro.

I am an electronics engineer with 7 years of experience in the printing industry in installation, commissioning, maintenance and service.Out of these 7 years, I have worked for two years in South Africa.
Owing to the low growth aspects and poor work-life balance, I am looking at a career change option. I am interested in pursuing my MBA abroad. However, I would like to know if an MBA could help me get opportunities outside printing industry. Could I look for career options in turnkey project consulting or digital transformation consulting? If not, what other options do I have?
Please advise
Regards,
Rahul

I am currently working with a top MNC in Chennai, as Business Excellence Associate Manager since 2013 and carry an overall experience of 14 years.
I worked for a small BPO of 30+ employees for around 10 years including an entrepreneurial break of 2 years, which didn't actually clicked but gave me a lot of learnings. I started at entry level there and was promoted to Senior manager (probably as good as TL in top orgs) before I moved to 400+ sized company in 2011. In the interim, I acquired new skills like six sigma black belt (2008-2010) and that helped me to move ahead to where I am right now.
I don't think I have shaped my career the way I wanted to. Although my growth has been like an average person or maybe better but I can't live in mediocrity. I want to acquire newer skills and leapbound my career and am looking at PGPMAX from ISB. Ultimately, I want to pursue my entrepreneurial dream.
Please guide what would be the right option at this career level?
Praveen

A very happy new year to you and congratulations on a consistently blossoming admissions consulting practice.
Would really appreciate some guidance on career path/plans -
- BTech. Civil Engg. IIT Bombay (GPA 7.62/10.00)
- Strategic Management Summer School, LSE (GPA : A+)
- GMAT: 730 (Given in March 2012, valid till March 2017)
Work Experience: 2 Years and 9 Months at Deloitte in IT Consulting straight after college. Got an early promotion (only 4-5 out of entire new hire batch make it) and stacked a lot of accolades and awards.
Alongside this, I setup an NGO's Event (http://www.deshraag.org/) In India and an Online Radio (http://www.bcradio.in) for Music. However, the Online Radio platform didn't quite work out because of (I think) my lack of expertise and direction. Its still functional but not as a prospective start-up, which was its initial intent.
I decided to build my expertise at online revenue generation and joined Google as an Account Strategist in AdWords, where I have been working for ~1 year [total work ex = 3 Years 8 Months as of now] at par with IIM, MDI, SPJ, etc. MBA grads. I have received the highest rating and 5 Bonuses till date and have a great rapport with my colleagues in Sydney, where I travel and work frequently. Alongside I have become a certified professional in AdWords [Google] and Leadership/Management Essentials [HBS].
Current Dilemma: If I stick at Google I might get a chance to switch to lucrative roles internationally [by mid/end of 2015 and beyond] which pay almost as much as is the salary of an MBA grad form a good US B School. However, my GMAT score is getting old [The last i can apply with this score is R1 2016] and my work ex is piling up [6 Years 2 Months at the time of joining if I apply in R1 2016] and I really would like to do an MBA with the objective of accelerated growth by gaining exposure both academically and through networking. My goal is to use the digital marketing + MBA experience to return to the Music domain to have more sustainable impact.
What would you recommend?
Really appreciate your efforts and answer in advance.
Thanks
KJ

I'm an HR professional with an overall experience of 10 years approx. Currently I'm working as HR Manager in a service company. I completed Distance MBA course from Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) in 2009. Will it boost my career as an HR manager if I do an Executive MBA (Part time) from XLRI now? Will this course along with my 10-12 years of experience in HR be equivalent to a full time MBA in HR from a reputed organization? Please suggest.
Thanks!
Gayatri

after pondering over/ consulting with professional ,I started preparing for GMAT(MBA regular -One year)- IIM-A/B/C & L can help in dealing with this mid career crisis.
Now I am in dilemma that being a 37 years of age & 13 years of experience could be negative or foil my efforts.( one of my friends who studying one year -MBA put this thought in my mind). I just want to prepare with a single mind hence please need your professional advice on this matter to clear my doubts on age & long working experience.

I am an Indian with work experience of over 6 years in Top tier IT companies. I wanted to do MBA to get into the management side and have started with GMAT preparations. However, i am really confused with the destination that i should choose my B schools. I wish to settle abroad but not sure which country provides the good return of investment on the MBA. I know that US and UK MBA schools have great value but considering the Visa issues, i am not sure if these would provide any return of investments. Any suggestions would be helpful.
