Would be great if you could evaluate my profile:
GMAT score: 730 (AWA - 6; V - 44; Q - 46; IR - 7)
Academics: UG - 63.5% BE (ECE) from University of Delhi (2006-2010)
<<snip>>
Target Schools: Indiana Kelly; NYU Stern (a long shot); UW Foster; Rochester Simon
Dear Scipio,
A few reflections on your profile:All the best!
- A bit of doubt regarding your experience - is it on the IT/Technology side or Analytics/Research side? Your employer name will also help ascertain the degree of differentiation
- School ECs wont have much weight. So this point will really depend on how good the blog is going. Will be good to beef up the effort there
- I think that's a fairly well balanced schools list and a realistic goal at a high level. Maybe you can throw in a few more ambitious schools in there.
Regarding my work ex, I work with The Smart Cube (http://www.thesmartcube.com/), and I would classify my workex to be on the Analytics/Research side. How big a disadvantage is having an 'unknown' firm as an employer? Any any other schools you would recommend I add to my list?
Many Thanks,
Scipio

Dont think a non-brand can hurt chances as long as you are able to show how you've benefited from being part of a smaller outfit. For reasons mentioned here, anything I say about schools is likely to be fairly gut based and perhaps risky so I will refrain from that

Dear Piranha,
Consider this:
- Great GMAT score that one; would that CGPA also place you in say the top 2-5% of the class? That will help cement your academic prowess - so utilize that well
- The work-experience is non-common and sounds impressive. Your designation/function is not clear though. I am sure you are not a 'consultant' as auto firms do not have such designations. Are you part of supplier development function then? Or is it more like supplier quality? It will be tough to pass on quality related experience as consulting - you will have to think hard for that career choice. Explain how you've learnt about what consulting is and why it appeals to you. Without a well thought out justification for the switch, will be tough to defend that move
- Though great in itself, auto experience does not find a lot of currency outside India as the knowledge tends to be localized and niche. This will mean you will have to broad base your skill-set and project them as such.
- Some schools on the list are definitely quite aggressive (e.g. Kellogg, Darden and the likes). For reasons mentioned here, I wont go on this any more. There are some pretty good European schools out there - do dont rule that out unless you are keen on making a career in US. Choose wisely

Dear Shantanu,
Here are a few areas for you to dwell on:
- The academic profile is obviously not a differentiator for you - the GMAT will be an important metric to ace in that perspective so prepare well
- The nature of work-ex sounds interesting. Though it'll fall on the lower side of average for most schools in your list. You'll have to reflect on whether you've really done stuff that will help the adcom overlook that fact. If yes, you have a shot
- The school list is definitely on the aggressive side. You'll do well to throw in a few more achievable schools in their
- Work on your post-MBA goals. Your part-time venture is an interesting aspect (assuming there is no issues with your current employer). If you really want to take it to the next level with the help of an MBA, why do marketing/strategy and why not this full time? What will happen to the venture if you say go work for a MNC for next 5 years? Those and many other such questions need to be addressed well - which means the goals arent well etched out so work on that
Cheers,
-

I am targeting PGP admissions in ISB for the year 2015-16 in the early entry option. I have done my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering in MVGR College of Engineering, Vizianagaram(affiliated to JNTU Kakinada). I worked for Intergraph Consulting Pvt. Ltd. for 1 year 7 months and resigned my job as my husband got central government job; and we planned to relocate to Visakhapatnam. I wanted to continue my studies, so I am presently doing my M.E (final year)in Andhra University. Doing MBA in a reputed B-school is my all time dream. Please evaluate my profile.
Profile Summary:
10th(SSC)-91.5%,
Inter-91.4%
B.Tech -80.12%
M.E(pursuing)-8.43 GPA(till date)
GMAT-600 49Q,24V, AWA-5.5
Work experience- Software Analyst---IT consulting industry(worked in the development of a mechanical software)
Achievements:
Stood as batch topper and received a gold medal from the college in B.Tech. I am the 15th ranker in the university level as well.
Received a team award at work and also got some rewards for training freshers.
Extra curricular activities:
Played for intercollege tennikoit competitions(stood as runner-up)
This is a brief summary of my profile. I am very much interested in operations management and human resources. I am in a dilemma whether its the right time to apply for a career in ISB and also I am not sure about where I stand in the race as I have a pretty low GMAT score and also my work experience is less.
I have chosen Visakhapatnam as my future career destination, chances for my future career in IT has narrowed down. So, is it okay to have a career shift( mostly teaching side) now? (For the early entry option I still have 5 more months to complete 2 years of work experience, if I get selected )
Thanks,
Sneha.
